5850 is 9.5". It would be nice if the new Barts XT parts were shorter, but it might be up to AIB's to take that initiative.

Indeed.. I Know that PowerColor probably sold another 5k 5770's because they were smaller then the rest of the crowd (would fit in a Lian-Li PC-Q07).
 
Has Kyle hinted at all yet on the HD6000 launch? Usually he chimes in on a hint or 2 before launch ;-)

Mine too but it feels like a waste since I have a 5870. Yet, a 6870 does seem tempting to buy. I'm just not 100% sure whether I do or do not want to spend the money for the .... x% performance increase since I often game at 1920x1200 and currently the 5870 does most games with 2xaa at that resolution with a pretty steady 60 fps or so.

If I bought a 6870, I feel like my iCore 920 would be a bit of a limitation since I don't have it overclocked yet.

X1800 series were late, and the X1900 series was released 3 months later, how can you call that a paper launch? Even the X800 series was two weeks later than the 6800 Ultra? X700XT was a paper launch that never made it to a real SKU, 6800 Ultra Extreme was a ghost, the same goes to the 7800GTX 512, both are guilty of this.

Can't be compared directly, cache sizes, transistor density can be different. The Souther Island architecture has a different shader layout with fewer shaders (2+2) which means that it should be smaller than Evergreen shaders (4+1). The HD 4870 had 2.5 times of everything compared to the similar HD 3870 and yet, it only got 35% biggier die size.

The first round of cards are not supposed to be high end, so if they don't price them well enough nobody will buy them.

I think the 460 stole sales from the 5770 through the 5850, so AMD is in a hurry to regain the middle ground.
