This is a preview and you can see that there is a bug with the R9 290 currently. Games are actually looking a lot better even in this preview. Maybe everything will be smooth by the anniversary for the Crimson Driver release. With all their current GPU releases and Zen APU / CPU releases in October, this would be a great timetable to meet.

There's been some massive work done on the AMDGPU driver. It's probably now the best open graphics driver you can get and is the only one with vsync for rotated displays.

I'm glad that they are working on supporting GCN1.0/1.1 cards with AMDGPU and by extension AMDGPU Pro. Initially it was a little unclear and the official word was that it was only going to be GCN1.2+ which never quite made much sense to me.

If AMD can get the ball rolling on this and get Vulkan up to snuff, I would love to see AMD/Valve team-up to build a Nexus-like SteamBox sometime next year once we've got Zen/Polaris/Vega.
