My friend came over with the new parts for his computer. I built my first and only computer about a year ago. It's the 2.4c based one in my sig. By my recommendation he has an NF7-S with a 2500+ barton. The most difficult part for building mine was attaching the heatsink, I used a 3rd party (zalman) unit. We're just using the stock retail heatsink on his but we are having major troubles attaching the retention clip. I've searched for guides and seen detailed pictures and commentary on it but we still can't get it. Can anyone give some pointers?

Set the holes of the bracket over the little bumps on one side of the socket. Then use a small flat head screwdriver(one side of the HS should have a little groove) to push the otherside over the bumps on the other side of the socket.

i feel your pain man !! i have the same setup .. it took me numerous trys to get this bad boy on ! that clip is some kinda stiff ..

my words of wisdom from my install
- do not try to do it with mobo installed in the case (just makes things harder)
- find a sturdy flat surface
- and lastly find a small tipped flathead screwdriver to fit SNUG into the clip ( i think this was the biggest help to me)

good luck !

use the screwdriver to pry the clip open by pushing it forward against the clip so you push the hook outwards. Then just lower it down and let it slide into place. Make sure to attach the side without a screwdriver slot first and have it snug against that to ensure proper alignment. It just takes some nerves dont be afraid to force it a little (be careful of course).

Those retail heatsinks do seem to have slightly stiff retention clips, but you just have to use a firm grip and a good screwdriver, as everyone here has said.

It's just awkward on the first one since you don't know how much force to use.... after the first time it's easy as pie :D

A little tip, try holding onto the heatsink so as not to flex the motherboard. This will also reduce the risk of cracking the die (yes, the risk of doing so is blown way out of proportion, but it can't hurt to be just a bit more careful).

like everyone said, just take a screw driver and push that clip down and pull it towards the clip and let go...
yeah i know it is a BIG pain in the ass.
