AMD HD 7000 Delayed to 2012

Other than for the hardcore upgrader, I don't think anyone who made a considerable investment in the HD6 series will be upgrading to the HD7 series. The gains aren't going to be that enormous.

For people like me wanting to shove a powerful card into an HTPC case, the HD7 series looks to be a gigantic step up from HD6. If those leaked specs were going to be true, a 7870 would have been absolutely awesome for me as long as they keep it ~10". The most powerful 6xxx series card that will work for me (due to length) is a 6850, and a 5850 beats that pretty decently in almost everything.

I definitely need to upgrade my 5670 for BF3. I suppose I'll probably just end up picking up a 5770/5850 to hold me over a few months til the 7870/660Ti.

still happy with my 2 570's in sli. glad to see i will get atleast another year out of them.

I have a 4850 I was thinking about upgrading to a 6950. possibly Crossfire it after a few months. Should I just wait for the 7xxx cards to be released?

I would wait for Black Friday and associated holiday sales. Both AMD and NVIDIA have new chips coming so I'm sure there will be old stock needed to be cleared out at extremely good prices.

As for the delay I bet it has a lot to do with the combination of a new architecture and a die shrink. Doing one or the other is tough, doing both is.....well see Fermi.

Ya great thought about Black Friday, I could beef up my sencodary gaming rug in the Vid Card department, Im running a 4830 in there.

black friday sucks and its for noobs now. Best thing to do is to set up a deal alert over at slickdeals for the product you are looking for

I wouldn't mind waiting, but I really want to play Battlefield 3. I feel like the 7xxx performance isn't going to be worth waiting for over the two top end cards and I would be crossfiring them

Yea I wanted a new comp for BF3 as well but I don't mind waiting till 2012 for all the new computer parts to come out.

I'm not too upset by this. I really want to see how kepler does against the top end AMD video card line. I am slowly falling in love with edge-detect AA. I don't know if I can let go.

So is this really confirmed that the 7000 series (even the rebadged 6950/6970) wont be out till next year?)

might have to pick up something now then.

I wouldn't expect anything in buyable quantities from the HD7 or GTX6 series until about March-April.
