So i've finally decided to switch over after reading to many amd vs intel's and always seeing intel kick ass. I'm lookin' for the quickest proc I can get and my question to you is..I heard quad core comes out fairly soon, but what else after that? Is the next up high end intel going to be a few months from now?

right now YOU need to get a X6800, or wait a little while and get a QX6700, which will make your rig, like, scream like mad, man! It's insane.

The fastest desktop processor available right now is the X6800. The QX6700 is the upcoming Quad Core CPU and should be due out soon.

Either of these CPU's would give you ultimate performance now and for a little while at least. Once the quad core CPU comes out, it will be awhile before something dethrones it, but not too long as is the way of things.

The quad core is coming up in a month or two, correct? I'm looking at the Asus P5W Deluxe. Does anyone know if that board supports quad core? Or do I really have to put off buying things until new mobos come out as well. Its rough though because I have no rig at the moment..Bleh

how much money are you looking at to spend on the new system. If you have money as no problem then you might as well stick a dx10 card in it too.

of course intel is going to up themselves every time they release another processor. No more northwood to prescott upgardes. Intel's road map has shown some pretty fast CPUs. Yorkfield is 8 core. coming out in a year or two. But the kentsfield is probably the most realistic to think about since it's coming out in a few months, not a couple of full business quarters.

go for the Quad!!! :)

I am debating that myself. I've got the cash, and if it came out tomorrow I just might do it.

Mainly Alan Wake has me wanting quad core. Plus the thought of overclocking four cores to 3.0GHz and possibly beyond excites me.
