I have a few questions about my new amd fx-55...The first thing i want to say is thanks for anyone who can help me out with these issues. Ok the second thing is this processor is supose to run at 2.6ghz...when i look under my computer and click on properties, under the general tab it says that it is 1.20ghz is that an issue or is there a way that i can fix that problem!? I also want to know how to overclock this thing...does anyone have any suggestions to do this easily? I have the ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe with a xfx 6800 gt oc, igb ram Giel, and a Antec 550wt PSU. I hope someone can help me out with these issues I am in need? Thxs for everyones help in this matter!

yes, it's probably cool and quiet.

also, have you ready the stickies on overclocking in the overclocking and cooling forum?
if not, read those and come back to us if you have any more questions ;)

FX-55s are CPU multiplier unlocked so just incrementally change the settings until you are happy... RTFM. ;)

BTW, they aren't going to overclock by much... no bleeding edge chip does...

um, actually the fx's get the best dies. though the new ones aren't doing quite as well, i've seen them hit 3ghz on good air.

why not?

the asus's 'issue' is with ram overclocking. there's not any problems getting the cpu up to near it's max. sure, there's not as much voltage options as the dfi, but unless you have water cooling or phase change, over 1.65v isn't gonna do much :D

Actually when Ocing the FX55 Most users DONT run up the Multi. Its @ a stock setting of 13x. and Most if not all the people that OC FX55 lower them to 11x or 10x. And just so you know they OC like a mofo. Infact the FX55 hold the highest AMD overclocked CPU @ 3.8ghz. On water most hit 3.0 or around there on phase seen them on a regualr ls all the way to 3.3 to3.4ghz.

First thing is get rid of that Board and get either the DFI or the MSI board. They will oc way better then the Asus. Ask one of the members here on the forum his name is Newls1. I helped him OC his FX55. He had the Asus and it sucked. Would not stay stable except at stock settings. He got the correct memory, with the MSI Nforce4 sli and bang now he runs all the way to FSB 275 and on air has been as high as almost 2.9 ghz. Could offer more suggestions and help but need specific info on memory and cooling and all that stuff.

venice hits 3.4ghz already :p,it has some potential

where did you see that? i recall seeing a suicide of steven's 3800+ at 3.2 on phase, but nothing higher yet.

Ok i will disable cool n quiet but which program should i use for overclocking or do you do it from bios!? Thanks for everyones help in this matter.

I will find a link to it but it was a stable, and succesful OC to 3.8 over at Extreme systems. Ive also seen opb get some really crazy oc's on his rig as well.

i am aware of that thread and i point out this
Q: What is the highest frequency you have realized with the 3800+ Venice (suicide screenshot)?
A: 3419.2MHz (11x310.8MHz) @ 1.664V.
definitly 400mhz short of 3.8ghz ;)
maybe i was losing it or something, but i recall ballz's post saying 3.8, not 3.4

and sure, i've seen opb do some amazing stuff too, but i wasn't aware of him getting his hands on a venice and doing 3.8ghz. i would have known about it.

I was wondering what program you use or what steps you do to overclock to a higher ghz? If anyone has some good steps to achieving this please just let me know. Thanks fo your help

bios and memtest for ram tweaking
clockgen and prime for the cpu, while keeping an eye on the temps.
it's a lot more complex than that, but it's a good start.

Occording to the AI Booster my cpu seems to be running at 51c just sitting by itself with a game running it got up to 57c. The system says it is running at 45c byitself with nothing being played. Are these temps normal or what? If they are not what should I do about it and is it dangerous to the cpu? Any help would be appreciated. :)
