I was wondering which way to go for triple monitor support and was wondering what people thought about eyefinity vs surround. I am planning on running 3 Dell U2311H monitors. I am aware that AMD allows eyefinity off a single card which is a plus compared to nvidias requirement to have SLI in order to use surround, but I am planning on crossfiring/SLI a mid end card or a single high end card anyway so its not a big deal. If people could share their opinions that would be great.

Do you already have a motherboard?

Which does it support? It's not both.

Uhh motherboards can support both, and they can even support mixing if you have a Hydra chip.

Edit: Id got for a single card if you have the cash for it.

Getting a big single card setup is the best imho. I use a single 5870 with 2GB of VRAM, it played everything in 5760x1080 when I had 1080p monitors.

With AMD I'd use a single card. I haven't frequented the video card forum in a while, but a few months ago people were having major performance issues with CrossFire Eyefinity setups (when running CrossFire with one monitor, the problems disappeared). Not sure if they have been resolved by now or not.

SLI usually scales better and there are no major issues with SLI Surround setups that I know of, but the fact that you NEED two cards for Surround is kind of a bummer for those wanting or needing single card setups.

thanks for all the feedback guys, it appears as if I was going single card I would go for the ATI Radeon 6970 which should be released fairly soon. And if I was going for SLI, I would go with dual 560's or 570's to be released. I will see the performance and price differences and weigh it out. Thanks for all the helpful knowledge.
