Amd drivers will not install

Ran DDU in safe mode on nvidia and amd drivers 660ti pulled out put in rx480 drivers will not install. os not supported? WTF? This is in My A!0-7870k with asus Ax88m-e mobo 16 gb 2133 ram intell ssd win 8.1. turned of av. malware bytes an anti exploit. What am I doing wrong? Shouldn't be happening. Just downloaded 16.72. Message AMD Radeon software and drivers still not installed why is this happening. Any one have info or help?
 
Fail message driver install. the specified driver package was not installed for matching devices?
 
Make sure you are using the right bit 32 or 64. If you try to put 64 on 32 bit it will not install. Not sure how it reacts adding 32 to a 64bit system.
 
doubled checked all that... 64 bit win 7 8.1 10 version 16.72 I tried to manually install but get told best driver already install microsoft basic display adaptor? and it is disabled?
 
Drawing a blank here but maybe add your specs ie: Motherboard, specific OS you are using, and other components and someone else may have better luck. Never had that happen except in the scenario I gave before when My windows 10 install reverted to 32 bit when I DL it.
 
Asus A88XM-E mobo, A10-7870k, 16GB Gskill DDr3 5 ssds Intel 240 boot, intel, 180, 3 Pny 480. 1 Ageia Physx card, RX480 8gb,and a blue ray combo drive, win 8.1. Antec earthwatts 500.
machine worked fine with Nvidia GTX660Ti . I used DDU displ unistaller, pulled the card put in the 480. Tried running as admin. tried in safe mode etc. disabled AV. Malware byte anti malware and anti exploit.. Tried to manually install told best display allreadyy installed microsoft basic display driver. Uninstalled ms driver still no go. now device manager says ms displayh driver disabled? also uninstalled Physx nothing...
 
I had to uninstall the 16.7.1 drivers using the uninstall option on the 16.7.2 drivers, then install the new ones. The new drivers would crash when installing and I couldn't uninstall through add/remove programs. I don't use the DDU program as it's caused me issues in the past.
 
try taking the PhysX card out and make sure that ALL the windows updates are installed for your 8.1. then try again.
 
I updated to the 16.7.2 earlier today and literally the only thing changed since 16.7.1 is the radeon software and its to address one glitch. try running the 16.7.1 see if that works.

edit: oh and doom vulkan oops...
 
tried both the 16.71 and 72 no go on either If you go to Amds site they don't even list 8.1 versions don't know what kind of deal this is but it sucks that Amd is failing at support. I cannot even install off the Sapphire disk that came with card..Can't find the 16.62 at all or would try it and hope I could update.... Shame I can't use this card at full power going back into a 2008 Q6600 8gb system.This will be my LAST Amd product ever..... So much for VR for me What good is the 480 if Amd won't support 8.1?..
 
it does say that they are 8.1 compatible. so if you cannot install this or earlier versions idk whats going on. maybe its because it NON-WHQL. have you tried there clean up util?

found the 16.62 supposed to support rx 480 maybe I can update from those Yeah....
 
still down loading the 16.62s if this doesn't work putting my machines back the way they were and restoring from image ....
 
maybe its freaking out over your apu? is the igpu disabled properly in the bios? have you checked for a bios update?
 
found this too about missing info in inf file:

Have you considered putting windows 10 on the machine? its nice to use dx12 games anyway (which is a huge plus for AMD cards)

People have been modding inf's for years right? Adding support for different cards? Couldn't be that hard to fix the inf file would it?
 
I just put the card back in an 8 year old machine where it works very well q6600 8gb ddr2 and for now a Supercard that working on a 1.1 pcie 16 ha ha ha.........The gtx 660 is back where it works well an A10-7870k guess I won't be doing any VR for a long time may I' ll buy a console..........I know a cardboard 3dVR from Google ha haha ha ha ha ha hahahahahahaha.......
 
what ever makes you happy lol...one fact i have noticed when switching to amd cards is driver cleaners should be used on a "as needed" basis. (even when switching between amd/nvidia) i have installed like 10 drivers in a row on top of each other with zero issues. Also you having a cpu with a built in apu complicates things slightly.
 
why no problem when I had the GTX660ti installed I? I do have some knowledge of what I am doing. I checked the bios to be sure the Gpu was disabled, besides wouldn't the Amd software pick it up if it were. This is an AMD issue they don't even list 8.1 drivers on their site. Their just not supporting 8.1 screw the user. Its not as if MS isn't supporting 8.1 yet they still support 7? First the stupid power issue now this. It's as if they want to fail as a company... After this fiasco I won't touch another AMD product. This is just inexcusable....

To which I replied Amd can fix a power draw issue in a week, two weeks later no 8.1 drivers ? near future is that a week, 2 weeks, 6 months? The drivers should have been available on launch day. This is what drives customers away.

I don't want to screw with back door methods of installing. So don't give me get the inf win 7 etc.. This is an AMD FU...

I regret buying the card and may end up selling it or destroying it out of frustration. Stuck for now using it in a Windows 7 2008 computer. waste of $243.00.

Maybe I should consult a crystal ball or psychic to get me a real answer to 8.1 driver availability?

PS Don't even suggest installing Windows 10....

Amd is into the second week no 8.1 driver, already exceeding your stated time frames.... I doubt anything before next week? Those drivers should be available NOW,,,, Understand this. I feel as if AMD doesn't care. What it take,Reddit, Hardocp, or Toms hardware to get AMD to address this problem?

Sell the god dam card already and join nvidia paradise from here on out. Trust me YOUR not going to be happy with AMD... no fucking way, trust me. You like the 1% of rx480 buyers whos not using windows 10. Hell it might be 6 months before they get windows 8.1 sorted out. Why ANYONE would purchase a new AMD card with zero plans to play dx12 games IS BEYOND ME. You really should just sell it and pick up a 1060 as soon as possible.

Some people say the drivers on Nvidia cards are much better... Never have any problems ....
 
Your right Never had any of these issues with Nvidia. I bought into the AMD hype machine. I will not ever buy another AMD product after this fiasco...

you know i was being sarcastic to a point!;) AMD has and always will have small gaps in their support. ALL the minor issues are easy to deal with IF your open minded!
 
I have spent way too much time on this Rx -480. I was being open mined when I got it. Kept it even I found about the the power issues.
but come on no 8.1 drivers? That's not a minor issue. This is all BS and being too open minded is being naive..
 
I've found the Windows 10 upgrade to be quick and painless in most all cases. Never even had to bother with a clean install on half a dozen systems.

I'm not blaming you for being frustrated at a lack of proper 8.1 support but you do have an option. Or just return the card and buy something else.
 
No return policy at Newegg on this card...My experience with 10 was Intel nvidia laptop went smooth but Amd Radeon laptop ended up doing scratch install then no usb 2 even no usb driver from Amd or MS had to roll machine back to 7...Old saying if it ain't broke don't fix it.
 
Well I braced myself for a fight with Newegg on returning the 480. I explained the problems and I am getting full credit. lady said store credit but the email states refund.Did not expect this. Newegg is even paying return shipping..AMD curse is being lifted. Now for New Nvidia best VR bang for buck? Ideas anyone? Got 240 to use.......
 
One last thing I swear like ten minute ago I get an email from Ray_m at AMD tech support Guess what Windows 8.1 drivers for the 480 have gone live.... Too Late AMD Too late you have failed me for the last time. I will rejoice when the good ship AMD titanic slips under the waves.......
 
I usually wait for reviews to come but bought the hype. The second I read about the power draw the dark cloud formed. I thought here we go Amd screwed up again. This experience made me find my old consumer from HELL t-shirt.....
 
That really sounds more screwed up. Glad I'm getting rid of this POS. Knowing AMD's incompetence they probably left out the power fix.
PS how are the 16.30 newer than the 16.72?
 
its the base driver number not the crimson package, its confusing. package 16.7.2 contains driver version 16.20.1035.1001 the rx480 driver for 8.1 has version 16.30 and is only available for the rx480 on windows 8.1. every other card and even the rx480 drivers for windows 10 and 7 still get the 16.20 series. i looked...

edit: how is it a pos when it works fine in your other system? and being the enthusiast you claim, you should be used to dealing with minor technical issues...

It's a beta driver too. You can be mad about that in addition to everything else :D
