Having a bit of a heat issue...
I have a Dell Inspiron 530 case (pictures below but it's not mycase). I've always liked the front of the case and Dell's blue lights so I decided to keep the case, and upgrade the stock Q6600, to a Phenom 2 X4 955, with a Gigabyte board. Only mod I had to do was cut out the I/O sheild with a dremal (perfect cut btw, looks awesome). Originally the Dell was whisper quiet...before...
After the upgrade the PC has been running good, but loud! I was using the onboard HD 4200 and the noise level from the CPU fan was ok... but last night I tossed in a GTS 450 and now the PC sounds like it's ready for takeoff. It seems to be the CPU fan that's making all the racket, and it's running at 100%. I have 1 other case fan 80mm stock from Dell, that's plugged into the NB fan plug and it's also at 100% but definately not as loud as the CPU fan. This is also with the side of the case off
What I'm curious to know is why after adding the GPU the CPU fan kicked up to 100%. Temps for the CPU are around 44c Idle, haven't checked full load, but regardless even at Idle the CPU fan runs at 100%. I use headphones and the fan noise drowns out the headphone noise.
Temps for the GTS 450 are 35c Idle, and 60-66c full load Battlefield 2 BC. And as mentioned the side of the case I leave off.
It's actually a pretty nice case, it will fit a 5870 but since it stretches under one of the hdd racks you can only use 1 hdd. My PSU is Antec Earthwatt 500w.
Not my case...
