AMD Catalyst 11.10 Version 3 Preview Driver

No you need to uninstall V1 via uninstall manager.

I do the same thing EVERYTIME I change AMD drivers:

uninstall manager via control panel in W7
reboot to safe mode and run drivercleaner
reboot and install new drivers
reboot and install new CAP if necessary



Remember a preview is merely a beta driver, a complete driver set with a few tweaks or additions, so it's just a full feagured as a WHQL release.

Meanwhile I just install one driver over the top of the other, and don't have any issues. To each their own...

If you read the official method on the AMD support website, they recommend at least to use the uninstall manager, uninstall the current driver and then install the updated driver.

To be honest, I like nvidia's "clean install" checkbox on their newer driver packages the best.

nvidia also recommends an uninstall from the W7 control panel prior to installing a new package.

I'm just old school.

Ok so i uninstalled CCC and all my driver stuff. However some questions:

When i go into C: i see two folders, ATI and AMD. Inside ATI is C:/ATI/Support then three folders named 11-3 win764_dd_ccc_ocl, 11-6 same, 11-7 same. Inside those are "Bin 64, Config, images, packages, etc, setup.
Inside the AMD folder is AMD_Catalyst 11.10 preview folder, and AMD_Catalyst 11.10 preview 3 folder.

In DriverSweeper when i analyze ATI-Display it results with 14 things. most in "C:\windows\system32. Should i delete everything mentioned above (the AMD/ATV folders in C and run a complete driversweeper while in safe mode? (Btw how do u get into safe mode?)

I really wanna know if its now possible to use the 4 DVI ports from my two cards for eyefinity instead of just the ports on one card. I haven't tried it yet, because I have had bad luck with drivers lately...

Not for Eyefinity you can't.
For Eyefinity all the monitor connections are on the master or top card.

You do not have to go into the C: drive and delete files unless you wnat to.
The Catalyst uninstall manager will take care of that for you.

Run driver sweeper in safe mode.
To do that reboot your computer, during reboot press and hold the "F8" key.
Sometimes this will force you to select your OS HDD if you have more than one HDD as I do.
if this happens, select the OS HDD, press enter and quickly hold down "F8".

You will enter a screen that will allow you to enter safe mode.
Safe mode will load in about 60 seconds.
Enable and run the sweeper, i do it twice.

Restart and install your new driver set.

Not for Eyefinity you can't.
For Eyefinity all the monitor connections are on the master or top card.

You sure? It was my understanding that you could use the ports on both cards together in eyefinity, as long as you weren't using crossfire. Of course, if you want crossfire in eyefinity, that's definitely a no-go

Also......how and why would you leverage Eyefinity with two GPUs and not use Crossfire? I honestly do not know how you could run an EyeFinity display using two GPUs....essentially, each monitor output would be connected to a single display, making you need 6 displays......I suppose it is possible, but I don't have 6 displays to test it out. See below.

Yeah but thats the thing, those folders in C: are there even after i uninstalled everything with Catalyst. Thanks for telling me how to safe mode.

Update: Interesting, back when i wrote my post asking how to safe mode, i had everything uninstalled. Yet my screen looked normal (1920x1080) and netflix instant played normally. I just uninstalled everything again, went into safe mode, driver-sweeper'ed everything ATI, restarted into normal mode and everything finally looked how it was supposed too. 1440x____ or w/e the res is, no drivers installed, everything ATI gone. Weird, but im glad i did i driver swept. 11.10 V3 is now installed ready for BF3.
