AMD Cards With Poor AF Quality

Strange, I've got a 5850 and 6970 and haven't noticed any rippling or other odd effects... maybe I don't know what to look for.

Never had any issues with AF quality with my 6950s, but then I leave it on high quality all the time.

rare thing that the engineers had trouble finding but its improved with the 7970.

I saw the terrible AF quality on the 6970 (rippling/flicker effect), and now it's said to be vastly improved with the 7970.

I just want to know which cards were afflicted? All the 6000 and 5000 series, right?

6000 series card are the worst AF flickering offenders,
5000 are a bit less.

GCN (7970) has improved in this aspect,
so it's default quality AF filtering is on par with Fermi.
(almost as good if you want to nitpick)
GCN didn't improve much HQ mode, so Nvidia's High Quality setting is still unmatched.

Any suggestions where I can see this flickering? What games? Or is it anything using AF?

You didn't notice the slight blur... shed roof to the right?

I agree that most people won't notice anything out of ordinary, especially in everyday use,
and especially on still picture/screenshots.

From the discussions I've been following,
it seems that AMD opted for slight blurriness to conceal AF flickering.

I see moving AF lines in games (e.g. L.A.Noire) even with 16X forced AF, max in game AF and High Quality settings (line indicates that is the extent of image that has filtering). That didn't use to happen as much on my 5850 and not at all on my 4870. I would also like to know if that is fixed.

I am guessing your "moving lines" in LA Noire are probably due to aliasing, not due to AF.

Try using super sampling anti-aliasing
