AMD BF4 Mantle Delay

In Dice's defence, it is a new engine.

remember how buggy the UE3 engine was when it first came out?

frostbite is not a new engine, its been around since 2008 with 8 games being made on it by Dice.

Wow... Read much?

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frostbite_(game_engine)

FB3 is Infact, a new engine...

Because the mustang came out in 1964, does that mean it's the same car as today?
Wow.... Comprehend much?

Calling FB3 a new engine is like saying the camry is a new model because Toyota offers it in a different color then last year.

FB is infact, not a new engine. Its ~6 years old and has had 8 games made on it by Dice. Adding small little enhancements over time to the same base engine != new engine.

Same as UE3 then.

There were actual strides taken from UE2 to UE3 that you can clearly see. FB2 to FB3....not so much. You're not building a new engine in 2 years.

From their own website: "Frostbite 3 is the logical result of following through on the strategy embarked upon in Frostbite 2. The engine has been refined and tuned."

Same engine, but "refined and tuned" (lol).

one point everyone keeps forgetting.

there isnt anything to release.

Its an API set.

They are included with what ever game uses them.

there is no "release" by amd.

An API still has to be released. It does not just magically appear.

It is an AMD product.

It's not important to BF4 which was released without it or Frostbite 3 which currently does not use it.

I understand the need for damage control as this is highly embarrassing.

Well, if you want to see the Mantle API released, you have to wait at least until the public beta, which isn't announced yet, AFAIK. Until then you have to accept some built-in stuff, distributed with the game(s), when the developer/publisher(not AMD) decide to do so.

in that case...

it is indeed released.....to dice..

what YOU are referring to is the SDK...wich is not out yet.

the SDK is for small houses that dont have a relationship with AMD. They are ALWAYS made available AFTER proof of concept.

you and i cannot use it.

again, there is nothing to release. We just have to wait for a game house to use it. If dice doesnt get to it, then Theif will have it in march.

as usual PRIME1, you have no idea what you are talking about.

Maybe it's you who needs to take a comprehension course. It wouldn't be called FB3 if there were no improvements. There has only been 2 games released on FB3 at the moment, genius ..

Considering that I have never said there were no improvements, and said in 2 of my 3 post that that WHERE improvements, I do believe you should take those comprehension courses asap.

Goto the AMD youtube channel and check the Frostbite teams video there it goes into detail what Frostbite 3 does exactly.

It is just a small bit more then what you quoted from the website ....

Point being, its still the same engine with small improvements, not a completely new engine like what was said.

Point being that you missed the point that is why you would want to see the youtube video :)

1. Dice themselves have stated this.
2. Anyone with at least one functioning eye can see the 98% similarities in BF3 to BF4.
3. To think that they made a completely new engine is 2 years is laughable.

This is why im still replying just to make you look for the video and watch it then you can reply again and say that you watched it then you understand that what you are saying is wrong ;) . Yet when stating the obvious does not mean that what is generally listed is right.

The main reason being that there are a bunch of titles that are all going to be running Frostbite 3 and this was clearly not the case with Frostbite 2 and thus you come to the conclusion without ever watching the video that you not only missed the point you persist you are right ....

I dont need to watch a video to tell me that its the same engine with improvements, its common sense.

http://www.moddb.com/engines/frostbite-3
"Frostbite 3 is described by DICE as an upgraded version of its existing Frostbite 2 engine."

"In development since 2011, Frostbite 3 is an improvement of Frostbite 2"

So you didn't see the video on the youtube channel describing exactly what frostbite 3 does.
Maybe you can find other links and not watch the video ;) then you can keep on spamming something that is correct but does not cover the load.

Again, I dont need to watch a video to tell me this, I know it already and never tried to say otherwise. So I have no clue what you are trying to prove here.

FB3 is a slightly improved version of the FB2 engine, thats it. Its not a "completely new engine" like what was originally stated. Argue about anything else you want. This fact will not change.

Yeah it has physics :) and it has a nice video that you should not watch ever because it might actually tell you something 1 line on some weird website does not describe about improving.

Have you found another website yet which says the same with the exact lack of substance?

This one is fairly tame, you should see some of the other threads where PRIME1 craps all over the place...

well after the past week or so of trying to play BF4 on my crossfire 290s, I'd downgrade my expectations and just ask that they fix the Crossfire issues / flickering that are STILL occurring.

Yes, I know the released a patch for it, it "helped" but didn't eliminate all the flickering/Xfire issues. I have to keep my 290's with crossfire "disabled' to get any sort of consistent and good performance while gaming.

What kind of messed up world is this where the longer a game is out the more major bugs appear? i love my AMD cards for mining of course, but overall if I was going to sum up the experience it's that everytime one bug is fixed, one or two more pop up.

Ehhh, I would blame the issue on BF4, not AMD.

I understand the need for damage control as this is highly embarrassing.
Yes, one would imagine that you have quite the working knowledge on how to go about damage control.

unknown, i think hes been temp banned a few times, but it doesnt seem to stop him.

it was on the battlefield channel ;) my bad :)

Really hoping to see some directx competition. Will be good for the community I think no matter what. Hopefully most of the burden is on the developer side, as AMD does not have a terrific software implementation track record.

They don't seem to realize that "features" are entirely different from codebase. While there are LOTS of technical improvements in FB3, new features and such, the actual engine has stayed much the same.

For every thousand lines of code programming something - like the true volumetric water in BF4 - there are ten thousand lines written to the renderer, shaders, physics, sound, thread and a hundred other processing modules. It's these modules that haven't changed much since FB2.

Yeah the thing is that this is pretty awesome but with Mantle there is so much more possible that the slight improvement from FB2 to FB3 would seem minor if they really did a Mantle version optimized for 6+ cores.
