AMD Athlon VS Sempron processors

What's the big difference between the AMD Athlon and Sempron processors. I've checked all the info and specs on them and I can't see a huge difference between them.

Depends on the platform.

Socket A: Just a cache difference, and possibly a FSB difference depending on the CPU.

Socket 754: SOME Semprons lack the 64 bit set. Makes no real difference with current software, though.

minor correction (more of a technicality) nothing is missing on those chips (thats too expensive on a massive scale) its just disabled.

Paris Sempys (s754) are just newcastle athlon 64s with half/3 quarters of the L2 cache disabled

64 bit is hit/miss but it would be hard to find a s754 sempy without 64 bit support (which rocks for the mainstream arena)

Datasheet updated for bios monkeys, MP bridge connected = "Sempron"

The counterfitters are now modding socket A geodes to appear to be Semprons in the 2800+ range...

Cache, and nothing else. That's the great thing, since cache misses are offset by the great memory latencies by the A64 memory controller.
