AMD Athlon 64 FX-53

can't tell you about the motherboard, but I can say right now that you should wait until ATI releases their new cards, compare them with the 6800U, and buy whichever is faster. So, wait a couple weeks.

If you're getting a Radeon card, get an Abit motherboard.

If you're getting an Nvidea card, get an Nfoce motherboard.

As some recent benchmarks done by Hardocp, they showed the Nvideas worked better with Nforces.

I think Abit is somehow involved with ATi, so if you're going to get an Abit, get a KV8-MAX3 which is supposed to be very powerful (Though I'm not sure if it works with FXes, I think it does). It's about 200 dollars and features a uGuru chip which provides dynamic hardware monitoring and cooling, BIOS flashing, and audio adjustments through a Windows-based interface. It's supposed to be ueasy to modify the bus speed, CPU voltage, AGP voltage, and memory voltage.

Hardocp like I said, just benchmarked the newest Nforce motherboard and if I remember correctly, they loved it. I would go with that board.
 
if your about to shell out $750 for a processor, i would really wait for socket 939. as for sound card, either an m-audio revolution 7.1 or an audigy2 zs. and the videocard, wait a few weeks on that one too. its either going to be the 6800 or the x800.

i thought that nforce3 boards had a 1200mhz hypertransport, it may be better to get a via board with a 1600mhz (that is if you DO buy a socket 940)

Definetely wait for socket 939 and PCI express. And then get the X800 XT pciX version when it becomes available. Who knows, the FX-55 might be out.
 
You definitely dont want to buy a socket 940 FX-53. It will give you good performance now but at that kind of price you want something with more upgradeability and some better motherboard support. Wait for socket 939 and get a board with PCI Express on it. Otherwise your going to be stuck with buying a new processor and new motherboard in order to just upgrade a video card after the last AGP releases from nVidia and ATi.
