Well, ive been doing mild overclocks for about a year, and have never really touched the memory until my recent build(aug). My memory is DDR3 1600(sig for full specs of rig), and I like running it at that, but my ratio is not right......CPUZ reads it at 3:10 for the FSB:DRAM....I know there is a way to set it to 1:1(i have no problem with doing changes in the bios to do this, or to adjust my FSB to get my 1600) in my Asus Croshair III Bios, but for the life of me i have NO idea what it is....


Also, when doing this any suggestions on good timings to run it at(DDR3 OCZ HPC Reaper 1600....my current timings are: 9-9-9-20-33-1T , thats what shows up in CPUZ), and how to get it there efficiently..



also - just noticed my memory is running at 1333 atm(think my timings were higher when I had it at 1600, currently I just use the BIOS setting for 1333 or 1600 speed to get it there...)


Any suggestions ? i know my chip will handle 3.5-3.6 with reasonable temps with my current setup....got abit of headroom on voltage for CPU as well, at 1.325 right now, which is more than it needs for a bit of a speed boost...

if anyone can, can you explain what the HT Link is as well ??? Im not so up and in it with all the inner workings of a computer........



also - is it a CPU-Z read error that it recognizes the Phenom II X2 550 as a AM2+ cpu ?

forgot to add: I have BIOS version 1003 currently installed(been updating hoping to get one that lets me unlock my dang chip)
 
well first off 1:1 on an amd processor is completely useless because you wont get the FSB high enough to make it worth wild.. 1:1 is an intel thing since AMD uses unlocked multipliers on the black edition processors.. not to mention FSB overclocking is 99.9% worthless.. gives no added performance except in benchmarks..

depending on what heatsink you are using.. that chip should easily hit 3.8-3.9ghz possibly even 4ghz depending on how cool you can keep it running.. id suggest just setting the ram to DDR3 1600 in the bios and overclocking with the multiplier and CPU voltage.. the reason i dont recommend overclocking with the FSB is that the IMC(northbridge) creates a ton of heat.. in my setup for every 100mhz added to the NB it increased my temp by 2-3C..

HT link is the hypertransport link clock.. basicly the the speed in which the cpu can communicate with the pci-e slots(thats the rough description of what it is).. simple google search for "how Hypertransport works" should get you the full explanation..

i think by default it just recognizes it as an am2+ processor.. but really doesnt matter overall..
 
hmm, i had hbeen reading that you want a lower ratio, not sure why, but by your explination it doesnt really matter. I am using a stock cooler from a 9850...actually has what appears to be some copper in it...not the one that came with the chip that ws a peice of pure aluminum. and my cooling is pretty decent for an air rig, got the Antec 1200, and the heatsyncs on the Crosshair III are pretty good


and as for the timings, are 9-9-9-9...and all I have listed in 1st post ... good ??? ive searched all over google and could only find topics relevant to DDR memory, and only then saying that 3-3-3 was good, with no explination.
 
intel you want a lower ratio on memory for better overclocking.. amd it doesnt matter.. 1:1 really doesnt do anything on both sides.. just on intel's side it gives more room for FSB overclocking..


yeah 9-9-9-9 looks right.. you can just look on newegg for the ram.. the manufacture timing should be on there.. the timing isnt really that important anyways..

you might be able to get 3.8ghz.. just watch the temps and try to keep the full load temps under 60C..
 
ive got that much under handle :p just wanted to see on the FSB:DRAM ratio, since I had read else where, on here also I believe, that it mattered. And 9's accros the board are good then ? ill go with that, my last set was in the 6's(DDR2 OCZ Platinum)
