"Crytek prides itself on enabling CRYENGINE with the latest and most impressive rendering capabilities,” said Cevat Yerli, Founder, CEO & President of Crytek. “By integrating AMD’s new Mantle API, CRYENGINE will gain a dimension of ‘lower level’ hardware access that enables extraordinary efficiency, performance and hardware control."

They meant DX12, lol. Which most likely be all game engines will support Mantle moving forward.

Impressive partnership!

It makes a lot of sense for game engines to support Mantle and this is a big one alright.

Lower spec systems can provide the same experience as higher spec rigs means more potential customers for game developers.

Yup, gives credit to DX12 being Mantle renamed. Any game engine not implementing Mantle NOW will be seriously late to market and AAA studios just won't wait for them and move on.

Those of us who follow Star Citizen have known this unnoficially for a while, nice to see them making an official announcement.

Looks like Crytek will be following Unreal's subscription service as well, but a lot differently.

Crytek will charge $9.90/month for CryEngine and its SDK, but will charge no royalty fees.

Unreal is going to charge $19.99/month plus 5% royalty fees for any game that is commercially sold.

In all honesty, this is quite nice for developers. Low subscription fee and no royalties, and with Mantle support plus possible DirectX 12 inclusion, we're going to see a lot of new games, and better performing and looking games at that, see wide adoption of these APIs made with CryEngine.

The future of PC gaming actually looks promising especially Oculus Rift and VR making headways.

Exciting time to be a PC gamer!

I especially like how indies with lower budgets can now get their hands on AAA engines. This and crowd-funding will herald us into a new golden age of PC gaming.

You mean the Linux quote . Not to sure where that is going ;)

Oh, I've learned to speak a little executive and let's see about translating some parts of it....

Let's start off with an easy one :

"I asked Skynner how the overall reception has been, and his answer was straightforward: “I think you’re seeing it. Guys like Crytek, DICE, Oxide, seeing the value and supporting it. The names associated with Mantle tell the story. As general manager for AMD’s graphics I’m pretty damn happy!” "

Translates to :

"Woohoo! We got it right, and we have people who talk with gaming studios now!"

Next ...

“It’s an enthusiast technology, but it’s relevant at all pricepoints. People in emerging markets who have less dollars to spend suddenly get a massive performance increase. It enables people who haven’t had the hardware to play games before to play them at a level where they’ll get a satisfying experience. It’s relevant at the high end, at the low end, in developing markets, and in high growth and emerging markets.”

Translates to :

"We had to sell the idea of taking parts of API from the consoles dev teams and bring it to PCs to the board of directors. We had it fit with the direction they are taking the company. Notice I am repeating the standard company marketing lines here!"

And ...
The Biggie ...

“But right now we’re doing a feasibility study to determine how and when to bring Mantle to Linux. Regardless of the trajectory, you can see our efforts to support it. AMD cards got added to the main SteamOS build this January, and we’re making a load of contributions to the Linux kernels to improve power management, performance, features, all that good stuff. We take the SteamOS movement very seriously.”

Can roughly translate to :

"I reeeeeeally want to throw you a hint, but I can't! Parts of our initial Mantle Dev team has been reassigned to Linux, but we're stuck behind schedule because we ran out of qualified human resources due to our working with both major consoles and practically ALL major gaming studios simultaneously. But now we've got a team going on it."

My executive talk is a bit rusty, but you get the idea...
