AMD 940 Overclock Help

I have mine overclocked to 3.5GHZ at the moment. However my question is not how to overclock but which one is better: More FSB speed or the increase in Multiplier? I am asumming that the higher front side bus speed would make any program faster but im not sure. Can anyone verify this?
 
Nope, the higher the base clock is the better, assuming you have stability. It sure is not going to make it slower.
 
FSB is better than multiplier, so long as your memory and HTT can deal with being overclocked.

My 940 at 3.5 (200 x 17.5), SuperPI 1M is 20.5, at 3.52 (220 x 16), it is 19.6.
 
I have not had any luck with FSB, no matter the MB, memory or CPU. No doubt others have. I have had some decent luck with multiplier. If you go the FSB route keep an eye on North Bridge temps and run apps to stress memory and MB for stability.

My suggestion would be to up the "Bus Speed" and North Bridge as high as you can go and be stable, with the NB being the more important one. The HT Link should stay around default (1.8), however in some cases it does benefit graphical benchmarks/games from 2200 - 2400, but I would not go much higher than that.
 
The only way i can really get a stable overclock is when i up the multiplier. If i set the FSB to 210 and multi to 16 it is not stable but i can set the muli to 17.5 and FSB at 200 and its stable. I dont know why this is, but it may have something to do with my other post about having my at 1066 instead of defaulting to 800. Thanks for the advice. I will try to overclock the FSB then.

Your bus instability is probably due to the ram being pushed too high. What ram are you using? Drop the ram divisor to 800 and try pushing the bus up, but keep the vdimm at the 1066 setting.:D

After i updated the bios and got my mobo to recognize my 940, i was able to overclock it much more. It is running at 3.7 with my FSB at 215.
