AMD 7990

No reviews yet, and it'll "pwn" NVIDIA in the sense that it's a dual GPU in a self contained Crossfire configuration.

Will it "pwn" the 680? Sure. Will it beat the mainstream card that NVIDIA hasn't released yet? Probably, but then you've got to factor in NVIDIA's mainstream dual GPU iteration.
 
Looks like the 690 will beat it out by a significant margin (if you believe the rumours of a release in the next 2.5 weeks).
 
Well, based on the 680 using less power than the 7970, there's a high chance that the 690 will be more powerful than the 7990 because they can keep the clock speed higher while keeping in the same thermal envelop.

However, with the scaling issues I see with the 680s, two 690s will not be more powerful than two 7990s. Plus, the 3gb vRAM will give the 7990 a bigger advantage in ultra-high resolution scenarios.
 
I mean comparing a CF card to a single GPU card isn't fair, and of course Nvidia will release their own as well. Usually two separate cards in CF outperform a dual-GPU card as well due to higher clocks.

No, no, Rumors suggest two Tahiti GPUs running at 1ghz. Given Crossfire scales better than SLI and that GCN is stronger clock for clock than Kepler, I'm guessing that 7970 will be just barely faster than a GTX 690 with two complete GK104s, but they're going to be balls expensive.

Not only that, but NV doesn't have enough good GPUs to make enough GTX 680s. My guess is that GTX 690 will have two GK104 GPUs with parts of it fused off. If yields are as bad as Charlie says (yes, take it with a grain of salt), NV is looking for a way to salvage parts. My guess is that instead of flooding the market with all the broken GK104s badged as GTX 670s with parts of it fused off, they're going to only release the fused off GK104s as dual GPU cards for a premium price. GTX 680 was binned very aggressively, mainly so that NV could have that halo part and it would cut into 7970 sales.

7970 was binned very conservatively so people could actually buy the product. Because of this, I expect 7970 to be a full Tahiti at the rumored 1ghz while GTX 690 will be two castrated GPUs that didn't make the GTX 680 cut. GTX 690 will have fewer shaders and lower clocks than a GTX 680 given the GTX 680s availability and NV's lack of a GTX 670 or GTX 660 based on Kepler.

Interesting prediction. I personally think releasing the flawed ones as 670's is more likely. People would quickly figure out if Nvidia's new flagship consisted of broken parts and the PR wouldn't look good. Besides it would make it harder to beat the 7990 if true.

Well, they did that with the (for nVidia) then new 55nm process and the GTX295. Two GTX275 at GTX260 clocks (before the GTX275 existed, though).

well it was more like GTX 285 shaders with GTX 260 ram and clocks which then forced them to create the GTX 275. :D but the gtx 590 wasn't much better.. sure this time they actually made sure it had all the shader's but what was the point in that given the clocks were so low and power limited, they should of just used 2 GTX 570 gpu's instead.

so i'm leaning toward sdlvx's prediction as well that they may do the same thing as the GTX 295. also means they can sell it way cheaper than the 7990 will have to be sold at.
