my question is when will we see boards based on the 780gx

proof it exists
http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?p=694908

and the spec's for the chipset

790GX
* Codenamed RS780D [6], final name seen on internal AMD presentation [15]
* Single AMD processor configuration
* Integrated graphics: Radeon HD 3300 [16]
o ATI Hybrid Graphics
o Side-port memory as local frame buffer [17], supporting DDR2 and GDDR3 modules. [18]
o ATI PowerPlay technology
* Two physical PCI-E x16 slots at x8 bandwidth [6]
* HyperTransport 3.0 and PCI Express 2.0
* ATI CrossFire
o Hybrid CrossFire X
* AMD OverDrive
* Energy efficient Northbridge design
o 55 nm CMOS fabrication process manufactured by TSMC
o 528-pin Flip Chip Ball Grid Array (FCBGA) package
* Performance hybrid multi-graphics segment

all i can say is im holding off till i can score this board and it is getting hard!

Now the question is, when will they come?

I've been trying to hold off on buying the ECS 780g mobo until something like this comes out, but it's just so hard.

Also, trying to hold off on buying the phenom until the new revision comes out is also hard!

tell me what i do not already know my guess is very soon

Great question regarding availability. Some of these boards were already introduced at CeBIT. I had read they would appear in the market early April timeframe with the introduction of B3 Phenom stepping, but now am not so certain. I hope someone has a more definitive answer.

There seems to be a palpable groundswell developing around the 780G, so it will be interesting what this addition brings. Now if AMD could just get this same amount of excitement for their chipsets surrounding their CPUs. At least we now know the board will not have an updated Southbridge. Here's a picture of the new DFI Lanparty DK 790GX-M2R. Looks fairly awesome.

Damn, was waiting on that 790GX but a direct conversion results in $280, even more than 790FX boards.

Hopefully it ends up cheaper this side of the world.

I'd bet the DFI goes for >200 dollars and other brands such as gigabyte, MSI, biostar, etc go for a tad less. Asus might be over 200 as well. Of course the future is a blank slate.

I wouldn't sweat it, that high cost for the DFI is just EAT (early adopter's tax). It is a Dark series board, so I bet it settles around $200 like Kenji said. I'll swoop it up around there.

I'd expect something like the 790GX would be worth an announcement, and I would be suspicious of price gouging from retailers who are selling it before such an announcement.

Worst case scenario, I'm hoping that the hybrid crossfire X will be able to support any 2xxx or 3xxx gpu, however it seems more likely it will be a very specific group, such as 26xx / 36xx or 38xx only..

When it gets to the point that it will work alongside nearly any GPU, within rational reason, such as any directx 10 gpu or higher, that would be a major milestone. I hope AMD moves into this direction however possible. The relationship between GPU/Mobo/CPU would be the best revolution in computing since the mouse.

I'm going stir crazy wondering which GPU's the hybrid crossfire on this board will work with. I'm dreaming of a pair of X2's in Tri-Crossfire..

Wow, so much for SB750 not be ready for Computex 08. That board along with sideport looks so nice. Maybe there is hope that it's in retail channels toward late June.

It does seem that AMD might have learned how to read a schedule. Let's hope, at least.

Perhaps, but I think there is a customer-base that would like such power in a small package. DFI has a mATX P45 board coming. It would expand capabilities in the areas of LAN's, quiet PC's, and people with space constraints.

I am done with this upgrade line.

1. Bought a socket AM2 motherboard, because I thought it would be compatible with AM2+.
2. It wasn't, so I ended up having to buy a new motherboard for the AM2+ chips.

3. It turns out because of Southbridge problems they don't overclock well. So now they want us to upgrade again to fix their southbridge problems?

How many motherboards do I have to buy in order to get an AM2+ system to run right and overclock? I guess it is 3, maybe more before we finally get there. How about this. Quit rushing crap out and releasing a stable product, so I don't have to purchase multiple motherboards, do multiple builds, and fight through multiple failures to get a system that kicks some butt. Then AMD can have my business again.

dude the 790gx is the board that changes the game a improved igp with the ability to use hybrid crossfire with two deceit cards and most likely the desktop implementation of ATI Hybrid Graphics with crossfire X its a very compelling upgrade just for the ability to turn off a loud ass crossfire setup when its not needed and use the igp for windows till 3d is needed if infact this is how it will work on the desktop its a win

If they don't sell what they have ready, then they make no money. There's always new tech down the line, this is nothing new.
