AMD 64 onboard graphics

yes. But you should get a 6600GT (instead of LE) for about $30 more. It will be MUCH better. Search www.newegg.com (very good site to buy stuff from) for a 6600GT.

right now I have a 256mb agp 8x card nvidia 6800 is pci express faster than the agp. I ask becasue my new motherboard does not have any agp slot. can you point me to a resonalbly priced 256mb card

Here would be a good PCI Express 6600 GT : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130214

Both of these cards are made by EVGA. EVGA is a good brand and all of their newer graphics cards come with a life time warranty. I think both of the cards above have lifetime warranties. You might be able to find other cards out there for a little cheaper if you want.

Either of those cards would perform much better than onboard graphics.

I think from a technical standpoint PCI-Express is faster than AGP yes. Will you notice a difference between a 6800GT AGP and a 6800GT PCI-Express probably not on most applications.

your 6800 AGP Should be faster then a 6600GT PCI-E,
http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NzMzLDU=
is for a comparison between the 2(agp and pci-e 6600gt)

6600GT 500/500 8pipe/128bit mem
6800 325/350 12ipipe/256bit mem

tough call but not worth changing i think ^_^

Ouch :(
you are in a common situation at this point in time. a 6600gt is going to be a downgrade.
i'd look for a used pci-e 6800 or better either in the fs/ft forum or ebay.

Also, define "reasonably priced"... how much do you have to spend?
New 256MB pci-e 6800's start around $200 after rebate.

That's a steep price tag on the 256mb. seing how I just got the AGP one I may have to buy an older board with agp slot. this really sucks. Why didnt' they just keep the agp slot on the new boards with the pci express. this is gonna put a damper on my plans The 256 you showed me was expesive. Can you tell me the real differnece between the one you recommend at newegg and this one here: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0218913

this card above has 256 and its cheaper. Why???

also what about this one???? http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0218865

Memory means nothing... well thats not entirely true but you cant judge a card by the amount of memory it has. Its all about the chipset (6600, 6800, 7800).

Think of the chipset like a processor (Athlon, AXP, A64) no matter how much memory you have installed in a 1ghz athlon machine, it will never be faster than an A64. Not the best analogy, and a bit over simplified but it should convey the point.

the 6800GT is what he showed u 0.0? if so its 16 pipeline / 256bit mem
and the 6600GT is more expensive cuz it runs at 500/500 vs the 300/250 of those 2 cards,

What is going on which card should I get. I am good with the motherboard chipsets but the graphics are really throwing me off right now.

get a 6800 PCI-E if u can afford more get the GT

Okay you say its good for the money but the one from microcenter is 256mb i thought the more memory the faster the screen redraws. now my last question I will need a hdtv tuner card with rf remote do you have suggestions on which one I can pair with one of the grapihc cards you suggested

even though its 256mb its 256mb of slower ram, and a core thats 200mhz slower, I can see the GT outpreforming it in every way, its defiently worth getting the GT 128 over a 256non gt

I mean no offense whatsoever, but you should throw this idea out of your head. :)
Refresh rate, which is in no way related to the amount of ram on a video card, is how fast the screen redraws. The refresh rate is determined by a different chip on the card called the ramdac if you are using using the 'regular' analog connector on the card. It only takes around 5MB to run a 1280 x 1024 32bit display.

The Graphics Processing Unit (6600le, 6600, 6600GT, 6800, etc) is the main factor in determining the framerate. That is why a 128MB card with a faster GPU will out perform a 256MB card with a slower GPU. That is also why russ, metallicafan, & Digital Viper X have all suggested the 128MB 6600GT over the 256MB 6600le... because that is how little the quantity of ram matters.

The only benchmarks comparing the 2 cards I could find at the moment are unfortunately here but they show the GT far ahead of the plain old 6600... in some instances two times faster.

How about ATI's x800gto's. Preforms qutie a bit better then the 6600gt, overclocks well, has 256MB of ram, and is pci-e. They are $170 to $180 new at newegg. I read the Connect3d card can even be unlocked sometimes if you get the R423 core not laser cut.

Original post - read this carefully. dirtydr is right. Notice in the benchmark he linked the GeForce 6600 is about 30 fps slower than the 6600GT, and for only a few dollars more. If you are used to playing games with a 6800GT, I wouldn't think that you would be satisfied playing on anything less than a 6600GT. Its a very good card for the price. Bottom line: The GPU chip will have much more effect on performance than the amount of memory. 128MB 6600GT > 256MB 6600 :)

PS. the 6600LE suck. 256 Ram is unless because at the low resolutions required to run games on a 6600/6600gt it wont use that much ram.

What a bummer maybe I should just revert back to the older motherboard. I paid 325 bucks for my AGP card 6800GT a while ago. Now since i upgraded the motherbaord I can't use it. This really sucks...................................................

Would I have been better off waiting for the new Asus board and using the onboard graphics on that one. HOw are the graphics on this board:
