AMD 64 3000 O/C Variable voltage?

I have had this chip for a while and while looking around the the amd site I noticed 2 Different listings for the 3000's
This seems to be my chip AMD 64 3000 variable voltage
Well I started testing what variable voltage was and started lowering the core,checking for stability each time. From 1.4 all the way down to 1.15. Cpu temps slid down to 2c above ambiant at idle with stock cooling
Well now I started to get greedy. "i know it runs well on low voltage,but how well?"
I managed to crank the bus up to 220 still at only 1.15v. Temps rarely rose over 40c still only on air.
I knew the 2g of ram I was running wasnt going to help me with high bus speeds, so I had to change the ram devider 4/5 or 166mem with cpu running at 200
225,235...then it drops out. Raise(lol) the voltage to 1.25 and off we go 240,245,250 and no boot...Bump voltage to 1.3 and get it running at 260 stable before it got too late (3am) and and I had to get some sleep.
:D End result: cpu running 260fsb x9 multi 2340MHz on air with stock cooling :eek:
Temps after O/C about 43c idle/49c load all while running at a 1.30v core
The memory is running at awful 212MHz, But I have a pal who is going to loan me some fat Gskill to test with.
Im not done yet im going to keep pushing the CPU so more will follow along with screen shots of what I have done so far
 
Just put the ram divider down more. If it is DDR400 / PC3200, then it is probably holding you back from going higher than 212.

You should always be able to change the voltage, I think that's a motherboard thing.

There are two 3000+ because of the two different cores available, Winchester and Venice.

What was your stock voltage? If it was 1.4 it is a Venice. If it was 1.5 it was a Winchester.

Also, how long have you had the chip? If it wasn't THAT long, then I think it is a Venice. They overclock better. I doubt you could get 260 fsb with a .2 UNDERvolt on a Winchester.

If you want to overclock more you might look into replacing your heatsink. This is an XP-90, a REALLY good cpu cooler:

If you put those two things in your comp you will REALLY see some overclocks ;)

You stopped at a good place I think. Going over 50c is pushing it, although you COULD still use your comp at 55-57c. Maybe not long term, but you could bench at 57 pretty easily.
 
my winchesters stock voltage is 1.4, in the bios it reads as 1.34.
 
His CPU is a Winny, and he has an XP-90 but good luck trying to fit it on his mobo with 4 sticks of RAM - not likely to happen.

I just want to see my GSkill at ddr600/cas2.5 on that beast!

Thanks for the Input,russ. But ive been around a awhile sitting in the shadows. Been a member of this forum for about 2 years,just never really posted.
The only reason at the moment the ram is running at a crappy 212 is I was too tired to keep pushing it and went to bed. the 4x512 sticks are all running cas2.5 3-7-3 I can get 250 from the memory but must run it at cas3 to do so.

Stock Voltage: Well it runs at 1.40v like most other 64's but what lead me to lowering it was the "variable voltage" I saw in AMD's white sheet. But it runs solid a 1.15v no hesitation and pretty cool too.

I have had the chip 6-8months purchased from zipzoomfly but have been too lazy/busy to really screw with it. Its deff a venice...the "BP" on the chip tells me

I have and XP-90 (im really not that impressed with it) and I DONT use it.It is way too big to sit on that board with all 4 ram slots filled. The board is a MSI Neo plat. I have a 80m delta on the XP-90 to kick tons of airflow,but im saving it for my next project.

I was really posting to see if anyone had seen similar things with this type cpu.
1 Perfectly stable running at 1.15core
2 Easily overclockable, so far over 540MHz (almost 1/3) and I still havent gotten to the top of this cpu yet and its still running a low voltage at 1.30 . Im shooting tonight for a 275x9=2475 I dont consider 50c threatening...now 60c thats a different story

I appreciate any and all input on the subject. This all reminds me of those good old Cele333's that ran like a dream at 450........BOY IM OLD :(
