AMD 5890 in the works?

I guess anybody can just speculate on anything they want at this point. until there is official word or a better leaked info then this really means very little. also I would think that much like the 4890, the 5890 would be a much later release with some type of revision if it happens at all. of course you never can tell what these companies will do sometimes.
 
the only way i see them using the 5890 name is if they do a refresh of the RV870 gpu.. but we wont know until the GT300 comes out.. until then AMD has no reason to release a card using the XX90 designation..
 
well considering GPUs take 3+ years to develop something tells me AMD engineers are working on 3 or 4 refresh / generations and probably multiple possibilities for each
 
Practically EVERY GPU has some sort of mid-generation refresh. I'd be surprised if there were no 5890 (or whatever they decide to call it).

You mean that the 5870 won't be the last GPU ever made? DAMMIT! I thought this was finally the ultimate video card, and I would never have to upgrade again.

Curse this infernal treadmill. Will I ever reach the end?
 
Well, I guess its reasonable to assume a HD 5890 will be released eventually, its all part of the cycle within a generation of videocards, probably will take a while though.

Yes, the treadmill ends at the 7870 because by then skynet will become self aware. So make sure you buy you're 10K desk before then or else the sharks with lazers that the machines will build to take over the world will kill you before you ever get a chance to own a beautiful desk.

I think I'll just hold off until the googolplex70s, they should almost be able to run Crysis maxed out @ 1920 x 1200 :D.

stupid, they are changing the naming scheme after the 9870, it will be called the phoenix
