I've had this build for a few years, and figured I might as well OC a bit. So far I have gone from 200 FSB to 220, with a CPU multiplier of 11..so I'm currently at 2.42 from an original 2.2

when I push the FSB from 220 to 225, or 230, booting becomes an issue/ instability ensues.. I tried knocking back the hyper transport link from x5 to x4 (since that gets bumped when you change the FSB) but booting is still unstable ( 230-will not boot, 225- boots but loops/restarts) Was just wondering if I'm actually at my cap, or I should do something else with the HT link. I'll post a CPU-Z screen if it's warranted..

what motherboard are you using? I know I had to update the BIOS on me Asus M2N SLI Deluxe when I started overclocking, and I was having the exact same problems as you, wouldn't work past 225 FSB until I did the update.

I'm using an MSI k8n. Cooling is definitely not a problem :D I have a MACS Typhoon cooling system for my CPU, plus 3 120mm fans and 2 70mm  I'll see what I can do about updating my bios!

probably at your max. my 3800+ manchester only does 2.35 and thats at 1.4 volts. More voltage doesnt help push it up. Even at that speed, high temps crash my PC. So, overclocking is a winter thing for me. Ambient temps above 70F will result in crashing, even at 2.25

Not my best overclocking experience. Oh Well, good luck there

Thanks for the info Ehran. I just flashed my bios, so I'll try and OC a bit more ( and pay attention to my temps)

Have same cpu on msi k8n board , max stable i get is 2.42 with fsb 220. Got it once up to 2.7 but it crashed after 2 minutes. (no temp issue) seems to be the mobo chipset limit.
If u get it higher just let me know :D

I updated the bios, and 220 FSB is still my max. Must just be the chipset cap as you as said.

Have you relaxed your memory timings? Do a forum search for Eclipse'e o/c guide. It's very helpful.

Try reducing the memory speed somewhat as well.

To find the max speed of the motherboard chipset you need to put the CPU to a low multiplier, set HT to x3 and set your ram speed to as low as it will go (and still work).
That should give you free reign to take the FSB up high.

Run Orthos while changing the bus speed to see when it is starting to get unstable.

You should be able to get more out of it, I have my 3800+ x2 at 2.6 on stock volts. I would say memory is the problem, but yeah you should be able to got more out of it.
