My current rig is in my specs, I will be moving the memory/video/hd to this new PC.

Specs of new rig would be:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 512KB L2 Cache 64-bit Processor - Retail = $175

SOLTEK "SL-K8AN2E-GR" NVIDIA nForce3 250Gb Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 754 CPU -RETAIL = $96

1. My question is, the CPU/MOBO in my sig is going into a separate PC that already has vid/hd/mem and such, IS THIS AMD64 MOVE A GOOD IDEA, or should I be looking a P4 options for similar prices?

2. Is my kingston Valueram, going to work with my AMD64 system?

Use of PC is gaming, multitasking. Thanks Guys.

Your ram will be fine on an A64 system.

Personally, I would not get the nforce3 chipset. Go with a Via based MB for the A64.

A64 is a fantastic move. Why wouldn't you want to be prepared for the next gen of software + have a 15% performance increase in todays 32bit applications.

You can get a P4 if you want, it just won't be able to perform as well and you will have no support for 64bit apps when they hit the market next year.

Second the opinion above. P4's are okay, but the A64's simply outclass it in terms of performance, not to mention the fact its a 64-bit processor, making you prepared for the future of 64-bit apps. I've got no problem with the nForce3 chipsets or the VIA chipsets, I suppose I would go for the mobo that has the most feaures, has known reliability and is cheap (I like ASUS ;) ). And your RAM will be fine.
Which pin type (754 or 939) are you going for? Just curious.

939 is just too expensive, I was going for 754.

I figure this will hold me over until I purchase my Mac with Tiger OS....yes I know, but its just too damn hard to say no with those new features.

Its ok, it happens to the best of us.

If you can get a nice overclocking 2.4C/2.6C/2.8C/3.0C you will run circles around any A64. My freind has a 3.0C@4ghz and it rapes this guy with an FX53 in his clan.

Heat is a big issue for me, Prescott's are pretty much out of the question. My AMD Xp at full load hovers around 53-57 on hot days here in SD. Prescott's would explode!!
