Hello there my specs are
A7N8X Deluxe Edition
AMD 2200+ not overclocked - Stock cooling
MSI GEforce4 TI4200

Motherboard monitor says that the cpu diode id at 194 degrees fahrenheit.

Lately my computer restarts and the bios clocks my cpu back to 100 mhz frequency, but once i load the bios settings it is saved as 133 mhz already. Since all the settings are correct i jsut need to save and exit.

I was wondering what is causing my restarts. Is it the high temperatures? Power supply? Ram?

That is 90 degrees Celcius!!!!!!! Definately it's your temps restarting your system. That is way way way way way too high.

30-40C Idle (86-104F) is where you should be at when idle.

hmm i thought so, but i'm not not overclocking...my video card feels pretty hot too...what can i do???

i cleaned the fans already. still not much help.

make sure your heatsink is actually on the thing, with an appropriate amount of thermal paste, and make sure the fan spins when you turn the computer on. Make sure your cables are cleaned up in case you have a birds nest in there preventing fans from spinning or severely restricting airflow.

this is assuming that the temps being reported are correct. how long have you had this system, has the temp ever been this high, and has the system ever behaved this way? If the temps used to be fine and the system ran well, did you change anything inside your case?

hmm wires are very clean...i did reapply some thermal paste about 2 monthes ago...fans are working

it never reboooted until recently. i never monitored the temperatures until it started rebooting.

the only new and recent changes : i added another harddrive but that no where near the cpu and i put in another stick of ram. 1 gig total, dual channel.

it is getting hotter in San Jose so that may be it. right now i'm idling at 179 fahrenheit

Cpu Diode 179
Cpu socket 132
case 86
all fahrenheit readings

When you last seated your heatsink, you may have put it on backwards so that its only partially contacting the cpu. Take it off, clean all goop up with isopropyl alchohol, and then reseat the Heat Sink with some Artic silver 5 or equivalent thermal paste.

do you have any recommendations for the cheapest place to get artic silver.

any other possibilities???

what is the difference between cpu diode and cpu socket?

thanks for the info.
