Im really thinking about switching to intel. Im running 955 @ 4g, and wanna go to an i7 930 @ 4g+. Would this be worth the upgrade price in performance. Would cost about 100$ outa pocket.
Or just get a x6 cpu and a 890fx mobo..

What exactly will you be doing with this PC? What are you hoping to accomplish with these upgrades?

pure gaming! And killing my friends at my local LAN in 3dmark and other benchmarks.. But they really put a lot of weight on vantage.

Pure gaming? You could do that with an Athlon II.

How about answering the questions listed in the "Asking for Build Help?" sticky? We need more details as to what you're trying to accomplish.

just performance! for the price of the change, is the performance difference worth it? Just gaming and killing my friends bench scores...

For gaming performance, the performance increase (what little of it) would not justify the extra $100 (supposedly the out of pocket cost for you) or the hassle of rebuilding the PC. In other words, outside of a multi-GPU config, there's very little reason to upgrade to a Core i7 930 setup from your current setup for just gaming. Same goes for the hexcore CPUs.

For benchmarking, really depends on how much your e-penis matters to you. I mean if you're feeling that inadequate among your friends with your possibly low benchmark scores, need a self esteem boost as well as compensate for a small e-penis, then yah go for it.

i do have a small e-penis.. Its not that at all.. I know my Current rig can handle allmost everything i can toss at it with ease. At our lans we all battle each other for the shit of it.. And its fun. We all enjoy building, upgradeing, installing and reinstalling everything. Its a constant battle with each other to out do one an another. My group buys allmost full new builds monthly with what ever is new that month. ALL i wanted to know is, was there much of a perfomance boost in going intel 930 over amd 1090t over my current rig. Im going one way or the other.. Just didnt know if it was a better perfomace wise too jump ships to intel.

Any quad core would give you increased performance in heavy photo/graphics/video editing, while using multiple virtual machines, or with other resource-intensive programs or tasks. Few games benefit from the use of a quad core, though they do exist.

If you can easily afford the "upgrades," we really can't stop you. But it gets real expensive upgrading those parts constantly -- and it can easily get real boring, too. ;)

if you got money to burn, get another monitor. your current rig like everyone is saying is pretty good already to do pretty much handle anything you throw at it.
