AMD 1090T for $229

Yeah, the price drop happened a few days ago I believe.

Still, great price for an unlocked 6 core CPU.

Killing me. I just paid $230 from that auction site and it was used (but is working great at 4.0 in a SFF build).

8gb of DDR3 is allllmost $100.... when it gets to $100 I plan on building a new system with an X6 ;)

Wow, that price is going down...I paid $295 April 27th, when it debuted. Still a great price then, and I've no regrets, but this is even better. No reason to buy the X4 series IMO. The X3 will usually unlock, and the X6 series is downright mean.

Waiting to get a 1055t + mb for around $200 then I will be in folding heaven.

My wife just asked that I upgrade her system immediately. That means cutting into my normal upgrade budget. However keeping her happy means keeping me happy.

In the past I've always given her my old system when I upgrade, but I've been sitting on this Q6600 for over 3 years, and am now waiting for the Sandy Bridge/Bulldozer releases for the next jump

I do tend to oc her system, so is this BE worth the extra $30 over the current 1075t? The important thing is that it allows her to process her family videos and pictures and happily watching her net tv for the next couple, three years.

Since you OC Intel chips with FSB i would say probably not worth the $30.....the 1075T's Overclock processes will be similar to what you do on your Q6600, however for quick and more stable OC the BE is defiantly worth it IMO

Good enough, $30 isn't deal breaker, plus this will leave me with everything I need, except a hard drive, to build a fourth comp once I upgrade my own. I could actually considering joining the folding team with a dedicated box.

I was really thinking about scoring this for my new build, but I came away with the Phenom X4 970 (Deneb) @ 3.5GHz for gaming (C3 Stepping) No real advantage for the 1090T in my gaming world (RTS & TB Gaming) Plus the BE o/c @ 4.2 GHz without an issue even with a Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro @ $29.99 w/ free shipping (not Rev 2) Plus it was $49.00 cheaper.

Guys...Is there any real advantage for 8GB? I mean...I have read countless articles that 4GB for gaming is plenty in WIN 7 64-Bit! I guess if you need it for Photoshop or you're opening a TON of programs @ once, then fine. But I rather go for higher clocked RAM like this I bought here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226075

$89.99 AR is soild for this Mushkin RAM for gaming IMHO.

I'm a sysadmin, I don't game, I don't run Windows, but I do rock a ton of VMs on my desktop.
Putting $100 worth of extra RAM in a computer saves me from buying another $600 desktop to run VMs on. In my experience you run out of RAM long before you run out of CPU.

Depends, in general for gaming I would agree, but this isn't a gamer I'm building or else i'd save a few dollars and get a quad. ;)

The system is exactly that and a bit more, which is also why the 6 cores beckon. :D

Been rolling this against an i5/750 for cost comparisons. 1090t matches up straight across on the setups I'm doing.

Have not owned an AMD since K7, if I went with a 1075T instead, is it possible to keep the ram at stock setting while bumping the cpu?

That $30 will get me a better cooler and mobo if I don't need to step the ram up for ocing.

You could mess with the memory multipliers to keep the memory from overclocking. Say you get some DDR3-1600, just use the DDR3-1300 setting which means you can then push the HTT clock higher but still keep the memory within spec.

Ok thanks, answers that question. Just as cost effective to get the BE and stay with the 1333 ram. Pretty much the same process as ocing my Q6600 then. Of course W.Feather had already pointed that out, just grasping at straws I guess.

That is an awesome deal for anyone living outside of CA. I'm half tempted because of the free shipping......damn you for putting this evil on me........

My bad....LOL. I was tempted myself, particularly with $20 gift card.

IMO the best deal right now is for the 955BE as its about $160 shipped and can easily overclock to the speed of the 965BE and AFAIK the 975BE just by adjusting the multiplier.

That would be the processor I go for (I'm a gamer) if I can't get a good deal in your marketplace, and then when Bulldozer comes out and prices fall on the x6 chips, I snag one up with an unlocked multiplier and OC it to >4.0ghz, matching my OCd 955BE with 2 additional cores.

Gosh I love AMD.

I doubt there are even any games out there, including GTA IV, that would REALLY tax even the 1055t. A GPU upgrade with the money saved by buying a lower-end x6 would probably yield better results.

More RAM is Mo Better. Even if it seems like too much now, in a year or three you'll be glad you have it. I had 2GB in my rig and felt comfortable. Now I have 4GB and don't feel comfortable enough (*same rig). Upgrading to new box with 16GB this week.
