Amazon says it will be hiring 120,000 temporary workers for the holiday season. That is twenty percent more than the year before. The good news is that more than 14,000 people hired for seasonal work last year became full time employees.

Amazon.com Inc said it would hire more than 120,000 seasonal workers in the United States for the holiday season, 20 percent more than last year, highlighting the growing threat the e-commerce giant poses to traditional retailers. U.S. retailers such as Macy's Inc, Target Corp and Kohl's Corp have said they plan to hire fewer temporary workers or to keep seasonal employment levels little changed this holiday season.

I wonder what the pay is? Hopefully better than min wage. At least a little bit...

$11-13/hour for most sorter positions.

Lots of stories about brutal work environments and ever-increasing productivity requirements, though. They don't seem too concerned about burning people out and replacing them.
