Their website is a bit vague about this, but when you preorder with Amazon.com, do you pay for the game upfront? Do you put a down payment? I'm just curious more than anything.

And, if the price gets raised, you still pay the price you pre-ordered at.

And you can get release date delivery for some titles. Pretty much a win all the way around.

Win, except half the time their preorders end up being out of stock where you have to wait a bit of extra time.

Never has been an issue for me... Amazon is my goto for games not ordered on Steam....

Yup. It's a sweet deal. I preordered Witcher 2 on Sunday (2 days before the release) with the release day delivery, and it got here first thing in the morning on Tuesday :D Funny thing is, it was the cheapest delivery option too, at $0.99 while the 1-3 day shipping was $9.99 and 3-7 day at $4.99 :p

You snooze, you lose.

Never had an Amazon preorder get delayed because of OOS. Amazon wont let you preorder in the first place.

El wrongo, When I preordered Silent Hunter 4 about four months prior to release several years ago, Amazon backordered it to the point where delivery was going to be several WEEKS later. I ended up canceling it and buying it at WalMart.

my experience differs.... multiple times. I'm not hating, Amazon is still my main goto place for buying most things physical. I just don't trust Amazon preorders to always arrive on the dot. That's all. They're still my favorite retailer.

Amazon Prime members, well, maybe pre-orders are more reliable?

I preordered FarCry and got it about 2 days after it was released

I ordered a bunch of Blurays a while ago, some were not yet released but I got them days early and as others said the price dropped on a few and I was charged the new (lower) price

That is probably just an isolated case. I have a friend who pre-orders every game through Amazon with release day delivery and she has never had an issue. I had an issue with my Witcher 2 pre-order, but that was UPS's issue - not Amazon's. I've got Duke Nukem Forever pre-ordered through Amazon. We'll see how it goes.

The only issue I've had was with my Mafia II pre-order. Every other pre-order has been smooth. Release date delivery for $0.99 is awesome as well, when they offer it.
