I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Pre-Ordering an item through Amazon...do they ever ship it out earlier then the official release date?...or maybe ship it out a day or 2 earlier so it actually arrives on the official release date?...or do they onlly ship out on that day only, no exceptions?

I pre-ordered a PC game (Arkham Asylum) which has an official release date of September 15th and I was hoping to maybe receive it early or maybe on that day itself

My only experience is with movies, but I've received them from 2 days before up to the day of the release, never after.

They usually ship the day before so that if you had it shipped overnight, it'll arrive on release day.

By the way, 3.99 overnight shipping through Amazon Prime is awesome.

Amazon appears to vary from reports of others for the console version of Batman (CAG). Amazon now offers "release day delivery" which is a seperate charge and only offered on some releases. Some people that chose this still did not receive the title on release day. Others that chose free shipping didn't get shipped until the following week, and then waited for it to be delivered. People that had prime were all over the place.

So for releases that you must own on release day, amazon doesn't look like a great option.

They will usually put a notice on a preorder item if "Release Day Shipping" is an option.

You'd need to pay for overnight shipping, but if you have a Prime account it's worth it, especially if you don't pay tax.

I ordered Batman AA from them (PS3) and had it in my hand the day it was available in stores. Ended up paying less by not paying taxes on it as well.

Amazon recently added tax for all NY residents so that sucks for us...Amazon used to almost always have the lowest prices on items but now with the tax added it's not always the case

Many times they offer free release day shipping for prime members as well.

If you have Prime, go for it since you'll get guaranteed two day shipping at the minimum.

I pre-ordered two games from them in the last year without Prime, and they shipped it on the release day. The first game got lost so they had to send out another copy and the second game took a week and a half to arrive so if you don't have Prime, it may take a while to get to you.

I pre-ordered Batman:AA on amazon a back at the end of august for $43.99 and free shipping, it shows a ETA of 09.21.09. Comes with the comic as well. can't wait.

those ETA's are never correct in my experience...Amazon always ships much earlier then their ETA dates...those ETA dates are just to scare people into choosing 2 Day or Overnight shipping

i so abused the 1month prime trial....

i bought a $700 100lb 7.1 full HDMI Onkyo home theater system and had them ship it over night for 3.99. i could of easily fit my self in the box and shipped my self back to them.

lol poor amazon. ;) i cant imagine what that shipping bill was for them on that item

pretty sure the reason would be that they have a distribution center in the state.

so by law they have to charge tax to anyone that purchases in the same state as one of the distribution centers.

and tech. your supposed to file any online purchases on your tax return any way and pay the rightful state sales tax on your tax return. but.. i have a feeling the majority of people tend to overlook that

but just because they have a distribution center in the state does not mean that they will always ship out the items from that 1 location...they might have to ship from another state at times, due to an item not being in stock or for other reasons so I don't know if that's the reason why they added the tax charge

it doesnt matter if it still ships from california. they have a facility in the state you live in which means they have to charge you tax no matter what.
