In early January there was mention of AMD putting some AM4 CPUs back into production. Personally I would welcome that (depending on which ones they rereleased). Since then I haven’t heard anything- maybe it was a pipe dream and won’t materialize- anyone have actual info?

I concur, nothing but rumors. I really don't see much performance gains or cheaper costs with any new AM4 CPU's.

Probably easier/cheaper to design a new memory controller for am5/ddr3, and slap it on a modular package they already have ready.

I debated upgrading my am4 rig to max out (or just massively improve over the 5500 I have) the cpu before they vanish. I'll probably regret it, but I keep putting it off. What I have works fine and my 32g of memory is plenty for a few years I suspect.

5800X3D has now reached biblical status among PC hardware. Lol

They could totally sell a 5850X3D for a $100 markup prolly too, if just a few for collectors or something.

I've handed mine down to my son and will prolly go to my daughter after that. And it will prolly still be competing with modern budget chips for a while.

It has been resurerected! (South Park, Cartman speaking :p )

IMHO this move makes sense given current ram prices. Sales of new mainboards & procs are crashing because of ram prices aside from DDR4 LGA 1700 boards. I'm sure AMD wants a slice of the upgrade the proc but keep your DDR4 pie, and reintroducing the 5800X3D is their best option. Without AM4 X3D being available at a reasonable price your best option for an upgrade with existing DDR4 is LGA 1700. This will make the best option for any gamer on a decent AM4 board and a non-X3D proc a simple CPU replacement - unless they charge too much. I'm thinking the price will be between a 5900XT (16 core, dual CCD) and a 5800XT. 5900XT is a little over $300 while you can get a 5800XT for ~$225. So I'm thinking $250-300 for the reissued 5800X3D.

Crazy though... I grabbed a new 5800XT last year before the AI gouge...for about $140...

DDR4 while not the same pricing as DDR5...I would not expect it to remain that way. The component companies are not your friends. They know people are still sticking to previous gen hardware and even building new builds off previous gen. They want a piece of that pie ..
