AM2 Heatsink Fan?

So for an AM2 Mobo what kind of heatsink fan should I look for/use in a Qpack?

 
Not sure as I am looking for the same solution in a Silverstone SG01 case.
I have a Q pack system as well, and I think you have more options than most. Obviously you cannot stick a Zalman 9500 in it, but I'd imagine that most aftermarket heatsinks that have the stock AMD heatsink height would fit.

Take a look at the Zalman 8000 or the OCZ tempest. Im debating between the two and I think I might go with the OCZ.

The Zalman 8000 fits AM2? Good news. Guess that means I can go ahead and order this for the Silverstone. Hopefully this will help the OP of this thread as well. Sorry for the threadjack.

yep the Zalman 8000 fits, but it may block dimm slots...e.g., on the Asus mATX AM2 motherboard, it blocks the first slot (you have to install the memory first or get shorter memory)...
However, it's not as quiet as the Zalman 7000 nor does it cool as well, but Zalman refuses to create an AM2 adapter for the 7000. Not sure how it compares to the OCZ Tempest in terms of noise...

Yea the zalman might have some fitment issues so I was leaning towards the ocz.
 
Im running the Zalman 8000 on my Epox. I think it cools pretty good. X2 3800 idles at 30,load 36. But it is very loud IMO. Im using a Vantec controller in the 3.5 bay on my MF to lower the fan speed when im not encoding video.
 
is good to know that the Z 8000 fits AM2

I have the 7000 i think now on my 754.

 
Sigh, no love again. I got the Zalman, but it doesn't fit due to Asus' location of the capacitors on the motherboard! If I flip the Zalman 8000 around, it blocks a memory slot. Back to the drawing board. Any other AM2 heatsinks you guys can think of that might fit?

Yea will I just got my OCZ tempest and It wont fit in my microfly case cause its too tall but it fits on my epox mobo, but it blocks the first 2 ram slots.

Does it really block the memory slot or do you just have to put the memory in first?
On my CSM board, the Zalman 7000 requires that you put the memory in the first slot in first...
 
Since all the C2D mATX mobo's currently available suck (and are overprised), I'm thinking of going back to AMD. One thing is sure, I want the NT06! :) The SilverStone Nitrogon NT06 is great for passive cooling in a SG01 with a PSU with 12 cm fan. But at the moment, the cooler is still not compatible with AM2.
I read on madshrimps.be that the cooler should be compatible with AM2 since august. But all the shops I contacted told me that the NT06 has no AM2-bracket. I contacted SilverStone then and they told me that a NT06 with AM2 bracket included will not be available for another month! So if somebody is interested, you have to wait ;) They also told me that it is possible to purchase the NT06 AM2 bracket separately and that I need to contact SilverStone sales for more info.

It physically blocks it. You cannot fudge it in. I'd say about 1/4" clearance between the heatpipe on the bottom of the first memory slot, so I am SOL.

I went and picked up an Orb2 that came with an AM2 clip. Going to try this weekend to see how it works out. It has the same profile as the zalman 7700 bowl setup, so this should fit.

Welp, the Orb II sucked as well. The screws used to secure the heatsink to the aftermarket clip stripped after I mounted the heatsink. I was done, walked away to grab some motherboard screws to mount it to the chassis, and I hear a "ting" noise come from the clip. Sure enough, the screw on one side of the clip popped right off. Now, had this been mounted in the case and this happen? Well, I would have lost a very expensive CPU. Back to the store I go.

damn all this runnin around you could have saved the 8000 and bought an epox..lol...to each there own though, good luck

Thanks for checking those two. I've been thinking of using them for a new AM2 setup for the hardware VT support.
The last option I had was using this with the stock heatsink:

Lo and behold, I called Siverstone today and they carry the AM2 adaptor kit for the NT06 heatsink for $7! Holy crap, I could have saved myself the trouble of running around for a heatsink with this info. I'll let you guys know how this transition goes when the kit arrives.

Edit: Just as a back history, I currently am using the SST-NT06 heatsink and love it in the SG01 case. It just didn't come with an AM2 adapter. Now, problem solved! Woot!
 
that SST-NT06 looks huge...would it even fit into a qpack/microfly case? :-P
