I have an ASRock A780FullHd that i just got and i dont know very much about bios fetures the last bios i looked at was an award bios on a nforce2 board. this is an ami bios and ive never looked at an ami bios eather so its all new and confuseing to me.

well i used amd overdrive to get a 2.3Ghz x2 to 2.9 stable but i thought doing it in bios would be better so i wouldn't have to run overdrive at every boot. i got xp home, anyway i was looking in bios and found how to turn the bus i guess it's called to 236 wich is 2.7 but i also found something called AM2 boost and if i inable that the buss adjustment goos away. i was wondering if anyone knows what AM2 boost is and if its all that cool because i cant up the clock with it on i don't think

the amd boost is basicly an automatic overclocking setting in the bios.. which is why you cant mess with the FSB.. which is kind of funny that they call it amd boost since its not an amd feature its a bios feature..
 
oh what a trip, well if it auto overclocks a little then it didn't on mine after i turned it on windows still called cpu speed 2.3.Ghz. i disabled it and turned the FSB to 236 and got 2.7Ghz ran an ATI stability test for 1 hour and it worked

i used speed fan to look at temps and cpu didn't go above 57c i guess thats my next question does that seem like a safe temp i'm just using some pritty big ULTRA brand cpu cooler i got from tiger

anyway thanks for the help. i think ill do it manually. next thing i have to figgure out is how to get anything more out of the memory man i feel stuped looking at this bios. but its always like this for me im usually behind because i try to wait untill prices drop on things. so thanks
 
yeah 57C is fine.. should be able to go a little higher on the overclock.. try bumping the fsb up without changing the voltage and see how high you can go before its unstable... remember not to overclock your memory to far because it can cause the overclock to fail as well.. id say put it at ddr2 667/333 while doing the overclock just incase..
