Am I the only one that already feels like deleting 3dmark 2005?

Jeez, I ran this benchmark two times and am already sick of it. It seems so pointless to continue playing around with this for me. I did it before with the older versions of 3dmark, but I don't feel like wasting time with this one, tweaking drivers, updating drivers, running the test with different oc's, ect.. I know my machine runs it well, is it really neccesary to keep it around?? I'm not going to be thinking about my score when playing real games like Hl2 or D3.

i never downloaded 3dmark 2k3 and have no intention of touching this new version.
waste of bandwidth

You're not the only one. Btw, running those two full tests via cpu for the cpu score is just stupid...go ahead and use the demos that will run horribly, just don't make it take hours to complete. =/

whenever i upgrade, i usually download that stuff and run it, then i uninstall it and delete it

I dont know why anyone would pay for it either

While 3dmark is synthetic and have no use in real world in gaming it is good for comparing other thing like fillrate, Shader, etc.

And is cool tech demo.

The problem I have with 3dmark is the fact that it is almost completly GPU limited at this point. I would prefer to get a total look at my system rather than just having to overclock my video card to get higher scores. Also, as evident by D3 and Source benchmarks, the better your CPU the better the game runs. Check out this Anandtech article : CPU Battlegrounds

Yes sir the new version is crap. No more nature test in daylight with good graphics, Just a shitty green ball of jizz floating around a dark forest wow makes me so excited about the future graphics of games. The demo was crap as well just a choppy low res clip of far cry basicly. Futuremark hasnt released a good 3dmark since 01 and it looks like they never will. O5 deffinately did not blow me away in graphics looked more like a rehashed 03. However 01 and 99 were incredible for the time. Back to doom and farcry. I hope review sites dont use 05 at all in benchmarks.

Its cool to watch once, just to see what the graphics are like. After that its just plain boring. And all this super driver jive by ATI and nVidia just prior to this benchmark release is downright gay.

Ditto. Quite honestly, I just wanted to see the demos. They are quite nice. There's no way I'm going to spend hours tweaking my computer to squeeze out an extra 50 points.

I like it just to watch the demo of proxycon with sound. Thats pretty damn cool. Of course its like watching a slideshow for my system :(

I can run D3 tho perfectly at 1024x764 at high so im not worried about my system although I am eyeing a new ATi card...no monies tho.

I just like that proxycon scene otherwise its gay yeah. No real use for me.

3dmark is like drag racing cars. i mean is a 500 hp muscle car going to give you a great ride or great driving expericne from cali to FL proabbly not.but why do peopel tweak those last HP to shave a few seconds of there quarter mile time??

its a hobby to people. 3dmark is to some overclockers as the 1/4 mile time is to car enthuasist.

they shouldnt cut the track in half every year tho, that just makes things too hard

my car has 400 rwhp, and I spend loads of cash to make it go tenths faster in the 1/4th and 1/8th..

But I still am deleting this piece of crap.

Already removed from my system, don't need to keep it on unless its something I use daily ;)

Filter hit the nail right on the head.

And O NO'S!! DON'T DELETE IT!! Really though, no1 cares. Delete away.

Quoted for the truth. This shit won't touch my drive.

I thought the demo was pretty cool to watch.

Though I don't really see it as being very useful for measuring performance... honestly, by the time mainstream games have gfx like that, nobody will be using the current crop of cards anyway... so what if an Ultra scores a 6k vs a GT's 4k? That just means the demo runs slightly less crappy on that card... crap is still crap though.

What's the point of releasing a demo that NO commercial system can run at 60fps?

To keep it in use for the next 2 years until the next 3dmark comes out. I am hoping we should be getting a good surprise with the nv50/r520 :).

If you ran it and looked at the demo a couple of times, why wouldn't anyone delete it?

It will only stay on my system as a way of testing my OC. Other then that it is absolute garbage. As are all synthetics.

Already deleted it too. I feel sorry for those who spend money buying the pro version.

Feel bad for my 4111 point score with 6xAA/16xAF. You can't run jack cept for the one stock test with no eye candy. The Pro version is worth $20 measly dollars. ;)

I will download it, install it, run it, look at the eye candy and then uninstall it. Thats all I want to do as I know my system is fine for what I am playing.

:)

Looks like nobody has their own opinions anymore. Once a site says that benchmarks do not reflect real world performance everyone else jumps on the bandwagon. I'm not saying benchmarks are good are bad, I'm just tired of seeing useless threads stating that "I'm a bandwagoner and benchmarks do not reflect real world performance..blah..blah..blah". If you don't see the use, don't download. Simple as that.

This thing ruined my nearly perfect setup. I got a score of 4400+ and tried to raise it by installing new drivers, but now I've lost points in 3DMark03 and my FarCry is no longer stable in D3D. Who knew installing new drivers could be so destructive? And yes, I followed the right steps to driver installation.

That's my feeling as well. It's very sensitive to OC's and artifacting, much more that Doom3. It's a great tool to refine clock speeds. I also used it to make sure that my system scored simlar to comparable systems, just to make sure there wasn't anything wrong on my system that would slow it down.

If I can quote myself again "Benchmarks don't play games."

I really think 3DMARK 2K5 was only released to save face for Futuremark after their tweaking and driver fiasco.

It's worth its salt and makes for good rave backgrounds if that.
What really makes me wonder is why did 3Dmark get away from making their imagry look less like a game you will be playing in the future?

OOH a flying green lightning bug!!!! Gay
OOh a flying ship with Baron Von Munchausen!!! Run from the cock-worm Baren!!! Run bitch!
OOH a guy with a big chaingun. He's the bionic man! Look at him shoot up a bunch of soldiers. Gay!

This benchmark sucks.

If it were up to me, I'd create a UBER BENCHMARK comprised of REAL games we play today.

Scene 1 = Quake3 Timedemo (gotta have ole Quaky around)
Scene 2 = Far Cry Timedemo w/SM3.0 (yup)
Scene 3 = DOOM 3 Timedemo (no comment)
Scene 4 = UT2K4 BOT Timedemo (gotta love the botmatch)
Scene 5 = BF1942 64 bot soldier demo (that would be cool)
Scene 6 = SIMS2 Rumble in the frontroom (15 sims in one room surrounding a fight happening between 2 Sims)

WHAMMO you get a score. That's a real benchmark. Not this gravy train kiddie shit that futuremark keeps churning out. We play games, not this Mickey Mouse hog-wash!

I'm checking out my score to cock-swing my new MSI 6800GT overclocked with a Arctic Cooler on it. Then Uninstalled bitch!

I just downloaded it to see if it would run on my work computer. And guess what, no it doesnt....

Futermark haters vs. Futermark lovers :(. Just get along and stop bitching :)

The demos are stunning by the way. Over 1 million polygons/frame w/ heavy ps2.0 usage.

Ok flaming homos of the world-- let get a few things clear.

This is a BENCHMARK...

It is NOT A GAME

If you dont like it, DONT DOWNLOAD IT

Its not set up for people to have fun, or for people to spend days with...

You use it to get a score, and with that score you can compare against someone else to see how there system does better in yours... Thats the point of a BENCHMARK...

You see, when you want to get an FPS in far cry maybe you'll watch your FPS during certain sections of the game and say which FPS looks like the most common or average.

WIth a benchmark, you process the same things, usually with standardized settings, meaning you can acturately compare the performance of certain parts of your system against others. Does this reflect on to gameplay? No, game are all different. Some are ram, cpu or video card dependant. But still, the 3dMark does what it is meant to do.

If you want to use a benchmark in doom 3, go ahead- Its simple accurate, and it works. But it is still not gameplay. Sound, AI, and several parts of the game arent processed. Why is it used? It is a benchmark-- a standard for comparison.

Just like 3dmark....And also, did you notice that working shareware versions of 3d mark are umm..FREE?!?!?!? Not even the doom 3 demo has a benchmarker in the demo.

If you dont want to use it, dont. Go play games, and dont say how you dont like it. If you use it for actual work, thats great. Have fun with free software.

As far as your idea of "UsInG seVERal gamEZZZZ" to create a benchmark, lets just think about it....Hmm thats several game engines and parts of content that would have to be licensed, and the file size of several game engines, along with content (textures, sounds, etc) that would be a lot. Moreover, it would have to cost money--there is no way it could in hell be free. And in a few years, you know what? Completely outdated. Do you know what is free, up to date, and easy to get? 3dMark.

I downloaded it on one system installed it and ran it once.. it took to long to complete I thought and seemed very pointless..

So I unistalled it...

what would be cool if it was some sort of system analyzer so if they would have certain score ranges based on your hardware and would detect problem(s) you may have that could be holding your score down if you scored below a certain average (based on your hardware)

That would be useful.

Ah.... Well thats what we have the [H] Forums for.......

Note again: this software is free.

If I had the time and resources, I would attempt to create a hardware review site based completely on user experiences. Set a couple people in front of computers, let them complete some tasks, play some games, surf for porn, and then report on which setups gave them more enjoyable (and sticky) experiences. A high average frame rate, whether it be of a benchmarking suite or game, doesn't really matter if it still doesn't look and feel good to you. Maybe this powerhouse of a video card blasts through games, mostly, but when it does get behind, it has visible hiccups that make the game less fun. Anyway, that's what I'd like to see.

You PAID for it?! Oh god...if it weren't so out of character for me I'd have a giggle fit right about now.

$20 would buy me a Greatest Hits.

I understand its free...that doesnt preclude it from being useful or useless.

Theres plenty of free software out that sucks...and plenty of free software thats really really good.

One could argue that if people didnt bitch about free software then how would the developers know how to improve it to the point that many people would then really want to pay for it?

Once I noticed me getting 3-8 fps on the system I build not to long ago not only made me delete it but wan't to bash my computer... =[

Agreed, and not only that but 3dmark01 was only 30 something megs instead of this cluster fuck of a bloatware that 05 has become.

I would rather install a game demo because at least you get to play a couple levels instead of jerking off to a benchmark.
