Here is my planned purchase. My question is, is the 550w Antec enough power? The case I plan to get has room for 12 3.5" drives, so that's 4 more if I want to expand. Would the PSU be enough for that expansion?

I would think so, antec is a good brand.

edit: didn't see how many HDD's u were running... im not sure now

I starting to see lots of problem with power hungry cards 6600GT 6800GT X800 ETC But the problem in many cases is the lack of AMPS on power supplys to run the system. rating power supply with WATTS is really dumb and right down confusing for lots of people is like AMD rating of CPU clock speed , intel pentium tells you flat out if is a 2.66 ghz or 3.4 ghz . instead of rating power supply by watts they should rated at the 12 volt rail with the most amps ill give you an idea = ULTRA 400 WATTS or instead ULTRA 30 AMPS , is the amperage wish decides if the psu got enough torque to drive your video card. in the world of ham radio and other power hungry devices 12 volt or D.C current in general they are rated by AMPS not by WATTS . also 99% of the psu box they come in dont tell you the amps unless a few once you open the box might label the amperage inside the documents or manuals even here few do. here is how easy it is lets say your video card needs 15amps to run the rest of the pc might need another 15 your power supply is rated at a constant 40 amps you know here you got enough with 10 to spare . Watts rating would be ok for things you are concern as far how much watts it well burn at the end of your electric bill. another words= Martha get the 100 wats PC is cheaper on our electric bill. users of PC are not concern with this much less a gamer with a $1.000 or $3.000+ rig .
 
Yeah, all the harddrives and a possible SLI video setup is what concerns me. 550w is alot but is it enough?

If the power supply got a heafty weight "this means a big transformer" and price sticker to match you can bet it got enough amps on your 12 volt rail. how ever theres no sense in a over kill with a medium price video card. runing . With 2 X 6800GT I would fork out $200+ on a power supply of a well known brand also i forgot to mention those bastards video card maker could also tell you what the card pulls in amps at the 12 volt rail instead of just telling you what watts figures to get , or at least both numbers. i could use a very cheap auto amp meter and tell you how many amps a OC 6800GT pulls OR any other card .

You should be ok wih the EPS12V version,
36A at 12V gets you a long way, a quck rundown at takamn yeilded about 23A needed @ 12V,
a rough estimate I'd say around 30A at spinup with all of those drives, 50% utilization on the CPUs and graphcis card. (if your raid controller card supports staggared spinup that would be a good thing too).
 
Actually, I was also looking at the Turbo-Cool 510AG as an alternative.
