OK so I have the gateway 2185 and a 1900XT, this is all done through DVI. I am wondering am I HD compliant? how do I know if I am watching movies in HD? are there special movies only are DVDs HD?
Thanks for any help fellas

The main way of getting HD movies is on next gen DVDs which is either HD-DVD or blu-ray. You will need a drive which can read either of these and they are dead expensive and there are virtually no movies available in HD anyway. You will also need (though possibly not on some of the earlier next gen DVD releases) HDCP. You screen has this over DVI. Unfortunately your graphics card doesn't. Of cause there are other ways of getting HD content eg via TV tuner cards and by downloading films in HD for that you don't need anything special.

Not to mention, I don't think that monitor supports 1080P, only 1080i so that is also something to consider. I have the gateway and I'm selling it for a bunch of reasons. For the time being, I'm just going to sit tight with my single Dell 2007FPW untill:

The price of Blu-ray and/or HD DVD capable drives comes down
More movies come out in HD
The standard war is settled
New monitor technologies becomes avaliable at a reasonable price and can support 1080P native. LCD technology is just not satisfactory at the moment and I don't think the answer is further improvement in the technology
All video hardware becomes HDCP compliant.

I'm sure that will take a few years but I'm willing to wait because I dont want to keep wasting money.
