Well you can see what I'm running in my sig, I got the stock HSF and my Antec Sonata came with a 380w power supply. I'm thinking about oc'ing to around 2.4-2.5, so are there any measures I need to take before doing so? Is my psu good enough and would a better HSF allow me to push my oc farther?
 
better have a check on your PSU... with your proc, ram and VGA, i doubt that it can handle extra OC...

about the HSF, check see whether your current setup have temperature issues or not
 
What psu do you have now? I'd always reccomend an antec. Mine is 480watt, but I doubt you need that much 350-400 would proably suffice. Depending on the # of optical and HDD you have.
 
The only Antec with a strong enough +12v rail for A64's is the NeoPower. I'd suggest a newer Enermax or Ultra X-connect.
 
currently i have two optical drives and one hard drive. at most i'll add in another hd and a boot drive, probably a raptor. i'm planning on getting more ram by the end of this month and then i'll be good for a while. having said that, how much wattage should i be aiming for? and what psu's would be good for my setup? i'm looking to stay around $100. oh yeah, my case came with an antec trupower 380w psu.
 
the PSU that comes with the sonata is pretty bad, imo. I would move away from Antec.

Check an enermax PSU.
 
i'm using antec treupower 430W

but with your setup.. i think you better go for higher
 
so wen looking for a better psu, what numbers should i specifically be looking for? i know at least 30amps on the 12v rail, but what else? and should i also go with a better hsf?
 
I wouldn't worry too much about the other rails, those don't get a huge load. For a heatsink you might want to try the Thermalright XP-90 and couple it with a fan that you can stand the noise level of.
 
bleh. I have 3 optical drives, 2 harddrives, 9800 pro and a 3.0c at 3.7ghz running in a same case as you do on a 380w antec. Works perfectly fine
