So I decided to turn my computer into the closest thing to a folding powerhouse that I own, meaning I would utilize both cores on my E6300 as well as my Visiontek 4850

The problem I am concerned with is whether or not I have this properly configured. Due to potential overheating issues (and being in the most heat retaining room of the house) I am not running everything full blast. I have the console version for the CPU set properly as far as I can tell, as both cores are loaded to their respective percentage of usage and don't stray from it much, if at all.

I also have the GPU systray client and I have it set top approx. 90% usage. I don't go the full 100 because even on my desktop after awhile it starts to distort color, so I took that as a hint that I should slow it down a little. I have the machine ID set to 3, since machine ID 1 and 2 seem to be for cores 1 and 2 of my Core 2 Duo, so I assumed machine ID 3 would be the GPU.

The problem here is that when I go into Catalyst Control Center to monitor my GPU usage, it fluctuates between 4 and 30%, but never seems to ever come near the 90% I stated.

So am I doing this right? Am I running one too many clients? Do I need a third party monitor for GPU usage?
 
You need to remove a CPU client since the GPU2 client need a full core to feed the 4850.

 
Thanks. I was thinking that was the case but I wasn't sure. Guess I really do need to move to quad core now. :D Oh well. I'm waiting on a good deal on a 9450 and a board that doesn't suck. That and a couple more paychecks to set aside for a semi decent second box setup that I can dedicate strictly to folding.

Thank you kind sir. I'm sure there will be plenty of questions along the road ahead with the updated clients. But for right now, making the most of my setup was what I needed. Just kicked the 4850 into Overdrive to eke out some more points. I will turn it off when I leave it running at night to help prevent an overheat.

My video card came with the EVGA Precision tool. Did yours come with something similar? If so, you could definitely turn back the clocks a bit to make it run cooler, and up the fan speed. If you did that and ran it 24 hours you could get yourself a lot more points than turning it on and off frequently.

The EVGA precision tool can be downloaded for free from the EVGA site and works quite well with non-EVGA video cards.

Well its the Catalyst Control Center, and it gives me plenty of ability to do that I think. But my Overdrive speed takes my clocks from 625/993 to 690/1188. I figured it was a decent overclock.

I won't be able to adjust fan speed though. My card is modded with an Accelero S1 and a Scythe 120mm fan. The thing cools like a champ though. Highest temp I've gotten thus far was 50C on the overclocked speeds.
 
Don't bother OCing the core, just the shaders for f@h.
EVGA precision let's you unlink the clock between the two, if the proggy you're using doesn't.

I got my laptop to double it's PPD (from 900 to 2100) byt OCing the shaders to 1840.
 
Use another utility like the one relic mentioned or ATITool for your overclocks. When I ran an ATI card (wow been awhile I guess since it was a 9600xt) I had crappy luck with CCC for overclocking and always used Rivatuner (EVGA Precision is a simplified version) for clocking and ATITool for stability testing using the scan for artifacts option.

ATITool refuses to work for me. I will install it and it just crashes before it even loads.
