I just got a BFG 6800OC to replace my old ti4400...

Should I be noticing smoother gameplay? Because I am not. My framerates don't seem to be higher.

In addition, Doom 3 won't even run! I get that same initialization error that was common when you screwed up your Quake 3 config.

Call of Duty is a slide show at higher settings...literally 1 frame per second.

UTk24 plays the same as it did before.

On top of that, my tv output is only putting out black and white images!

Something is screwy here...I reinstalled the drivers to the latest version from nvidia.com...

What else am I missing? Please don't tell me to reinstall my OS, that just isn't a realistic alternative. A new peice of hardware should work without reinstalling an OS.

Are you sure you are getting adequate power to the new card? Can you try the card in a different computer to make sure that the card isn't defective?

Try to uninstall/install video driver in safe mode ... antivirus software might be impeaching some scripts to run during installation process and it results in bad performance/errors/BSOD.
 
i would seriously format for that, always a good idea after installing a new videocard.

Thats a bit extreme...im not even moving from ATI to nVidia...according to nvidia, i really shouldn't even have to reinstall the drivers, due to their "unified" architecture...
 
If you're running dual monitors, there's a bug that causes very low frame rates when playing games. Disable the 2nd monitor before playing the games.
 
hell just a defrag might help

i was getting bad framerates in css with everything cranked up
and its fine now after defragging
 
I had exact same problem when I first got my GT - it turned out to be an old AGP driver. Make sure your motherboard drivers are up to date.

I'm haveing the same type of problems too. So I'm trying to update my AGP and motherboard drivers, I just don't know how to do that. I tried to look on the internet and I searched this site, but couldn't find it. I don't even know what kind of motherboard I have. I have a Dell 8300 if that helps. Oh and I can't format the computer, so I am trying to find a different solution. thanks.
 
All Dell's have Intel Motherboards. I don't think you need to update your mobo drivers. Goto Dell where you purchased it.

OK...I have updated the Motherboard drivers and the bios...still slideshow like in doom 3.

What the fuck.

I have to reinstall my entire fucking OS? What a pain in the ass.

Can anyone think of ANYTHING else that might be wrong?
 
just reformat. how hard can it be? i just reformt a few second ago and i am here now :) anyways yeah reformat man.. unless u dont have the windows disc or something... and have u tried new drivers? and are you using the same drivers as ur old videocrad? wut version is it?
 
I think I am having the same trouble you are, I almost took my 6800 oc out and was going to return it I was so frustrated. I found that after I installed the 66.74 drivers for it, it kind of worked better. My doom 3 demo on auto-detect graphics settings tells me I should use medium 640x480, I turned it to High on 1025x768, and it runs ok, there is some distortion and lagging in a firefight.
FarCry worked better after the 66.74 drivers too, I tured off fast writes, whatever that does, but it was supposidly giving people problems, I played that for a bit, and it ran pretty good, but studdered some. I am going to try the 1.3 patch tomorrow. The autoDetect for graphics also tells me to put everythign on Low, I set everything on high at 1024x768, maybe I have to lower some of the settings, what did everyone else play farCry on with this card.

The games run, but I think something is wrong, the auto-detects telling me I need to run on the lowest setting is wrong I would think, anyone else having this problem?
If I figure anything out I'll let you know (other then formatting, I can't format it). Hopefully I can get it running better, or maybe my expectations are too high?

I don't know man...you know when you start doom 3, there is that big drop ship and you are on the dock in front of a soldier?

It literally drops to 2 frames per second even if I have it on 640x480 LOWEST QUALITY.

Something is fundamentally wrong, I just can't figure it out for the life of me...

Maybe I need to reinstall DirectX 9? I'll turn off AGP fast write tomorrow, but I can't see that being the problem....

I do, but that never caused a problem with my ti4400...I would play video games all the time, they ran fine...

But ok...Ill disable the second monitor here...give me a minute.

While I am doing this...is there any chance that it wants me to plug my monitor into the second (DVI adapter plug) instead of the first? It would hardware accelerate both of them, I beleive...it shouldn't matter...

Maybe someone should sticky a topic in the Nvidia forum about this bug in case anyone else comes across it, because I was unable to find any of the threads from when the 6800's were new and this was more prevalent.

tip: check what's fastest to fix first.

then last of all check the thing that's a pain in the @$$ of the king of the world to deal with.
 
Personally, I think this guy has something to learn from all this. He was being 'selective' when given advice by people, of things to try. ie. "No, I'm pretty sure its not that, because it worked fine before on a different card..." When all he had to do was read the previous post where it was mentioned that dual monitors were KNOWN to have problems. I'm not surprised though, as most peoples pride gets in the way of solving simple problems. No wonder God hates it so much.

Yup, theres lessons to be learned in everything... :)
 
number one thing to learn is people on this forum generally know wtf they are talking about and boy do i love that

hell building my new pc this forum was all i stared at for hours on end before i decided what i was gonna buy

I would just reformat and install your drivers again. heck I can re-format my computer and download all my drivers and install games in about 3 hours.

Now here is my question...I have an old TV that isn't capable of receiving higher channels like 60 +...

I rely on my TV tuner card in my computer and a dual monitor setup to watch TV.

I often game while watching TV this way...I could do it easily on my ti4400, and it didn't affect performance in any noticable way..it was quite nice.

Now, do you think this is a driver bug? I have also noticed that my secondary TV display is in black and white only...I can't get color on it.

If this is going to be fixed with a driver update, I will keep this card...but if I shelled out 280 dollars (including tax) for a peice of crap hardware that can't handle gaming with a second monitor enabled, I'll take this POS right back to Best Buy and order something nice on Newegg...like an X700XT AGP when it comes out...

That is utterly, completely, and totally unneccesary, if you just properly uninstall the previous drivers. I have went from NV to ATI (and vice versa) several times, not to mention trying different versions of the same drivers, many times, and get proper performance.

It's up to the user to just "do it right" and most semi-literate PC users can...there are driver cleaner progs all over the place or you can do it manually if you know what to do.

Do you format everytime you change a NIC or a cdrom? On my current OS I just went from my old 6800GT to my X800 setup with no problems. Performance is AWESOME, and I did not, nor do I need to, format.


P.S.-see? his problem was the dually bug, if he would have just formatted and reinstalled everything, the problem would have still existed and he would be pissed at doing all that work, for nothing. :p

I imagine this will be fixed with a future driver update (Nvidia's due, they haven't released one in a while, and I'm really looking forward to the new layout of the ForceWare 70's), I can't guarantee that it will.

Personally, I'd probably get a decent PCI video card for the secondary monitor(s), because I like having all of my main video card's power for the game I'm currently playing. But I can understand how that would not be an option. But with this solution, you'd have the option to hook up dual monitors on the secondary card in addition to your primary card, making a nice 3 monitor setup.

But in any case, the 6800 is going to be a waiting game for you, because it's not going to be fixed today. If it bothers you enough, then take the 6800 back and get something else. Or go back to your Ti4400, and wait.
