Am I backed up enough?

Win 7 C drive is intel ssd raid 0, personal files/acronis system images stored on intel ssd raid 0+1. Raid 0+1 backs up automatically every night to QNAP 419P NAS in 2TB RAID 5.

NAS backs up nightly to 2TB samsung story USB3 external drive. The entire NAS is also backed up via MozyHome Backup.

Any areas to improve upon?

While you have several copies of your data, it is not clear that you have multiple versions of each document.

I keep a monthly snapshot of my data as well as daily incremental changes. Very useful when someone changes a file and decides the change was counterproductive.

(My backups are saved in a directory named for the month and year. My incremental changes are zipped into files named for the month, day, and year.)

But as others have said. What you do is better than most.

Are there any local shapshots?

Aka delete a school report at 5PM, deletion gets replicated across all local storage. Would Mozy be the only location to recover this file the next morning before class?

(Oops, didn't see GeorgeHR's post, same idea)

Does that external drive get taken out of the house as an off premise backup? some people will keep data off site at work, friends house, safe deposit box at bank, storage locker somewhere else...

So if your gets swallowed up by an earthquake/volcano/aliens, your data will only be kept at Mozy? which is physically located where? and what if mozy does a software upgrade and loses your account? you might want to look at another offsite that keeps your data at a different geographical location with a different provider...

I dont have a backup plan, I have a recovery plan based on how important my data is too me. unattended install for OS, data gets backed up to various redundant storage devices at home and dumped to appropriate usb drive which gets stored at work on a weekly basis. Some data gets stored in gmail, others in dropbox and various cloud storage sites based in other countries...

pick up another QNAP and replicate that data over ssh to a remote site...
send your data to your [H] friends on different continents... I'm sure every [H] user has multi TB of empty space to store your backups!

@Heliox: What are you all backing up? Movies and music have millions of copies around the world, in the astronomically improbable event all backups fail, the files still exist. On the other hand, personal pictures and video of one-time events aren't recreatable. Some cool graphic design and webpage templates are. People who depend on your work can't always wait for you to recreate stuff. These are all things I take into account when I think "backup".

If you are a "math guy", you might be able to do some cost analysis of maintaining your backups versus the cost of recreating the backup'd data, where applicable. If your time is invaluable, then there isn't much point in doing any "figure'n" :D

I understand your concerns but I think it's a bit much. If Mozy fails the op still has 2 or 3 copies of his data locally. If something tragic happens at home, he still has a copy in the cloud. The chances of all the stars aligning and wiping out all backups simultaneously is slim to none.

What about offsite ?
:D

In general, I try to maintain 5 daily backups, 4 weekly and 12 monthly backups. This way I can step back the last 5 days, to any of the previous 4 weeks or 12 months. I do this only for data that would be a pain in the ass to recreate. Pictures, movies, documents, etc. The dailies are all incremental. The weekly and monthly are total backups. The monthly is actually the last weekly for that month.

Movies and TV programs that can be reloaded from other media or services are not part of the backups. So while it's inconvenient to reload them, it's less hassle than trying to keep them backed up somewhere.
