I've been looking for a pair of 280pros for a while, but they're hard to find in Canada. My girlfriend just went to the States, and I asked if she could pick me up a pair.

Being that she can't find any, I might just give up and get something that's (hopefully) as good. Anyone have any suggestions for 'phones for 80% music 20% gaming use? Price range is around $100; would very much like to keep it close to that mark (maybe a $30 boundary).

Thanks!

Equation rp-21's are the best closed headphone in the 100.00 range- they absolutely blow away the 280s. for open cans i would get the audio technica ath-ad700- about 110.00

oh there is a pair of rp-22s on head fi for $70 used. those have better bass slam than the 770 ffs.

I can only see the audio technica ath-ad700 for $140 on amazon.com; I don't expect them to be much cheaper at a store.

Also I should have mentioned that the headphones must be purchases at an actual retail store. She's going to some super mall in Honalulu, I'm hoping they have an acceptable store there. Thanks for the suggestions so far, I'll tell her to keep her eyes open for those and any more you may suggest.

Hawaii should have tons of Asian made headphones. Look for the AD700, Denon 1000, um

oh yeah Grado SR-80 is great for music at that price.

If she finds anyplace in Honolulu that sells good headphones let me know. If the mall she was talking about is Ala Moana, only place there that might have anything is Shirokiya over by Macy's, but they only have some sony stuff like the v700's I think. Easy Music close to Ala Moana sells some lower end senns, might've been 212pros but I can't remember.

I don't really find much stuff in stores in Honolulu. I normally order stuff online since it's cheaper(sometimes even after shipping!).

Sharpie I'm in B.C. If nothing comes out of this I'm just going to drive to Vancouver and search around for a day. I would just order them online in the first place, but unfortunately in Canada you cannot get electronics like headphones off of Amazon, and most other sites I've checked have grossly inflated prices.

So I'm giving her a list of:

Equation rp-21/22
Grado SR-80
Audio Technica ath-ad700 (or hopefully the ATHA700's with the blue metallic finish... things are sexy)

Here's to hoping :)

I wouldn't consider the AD700 to be an alternative to the 280 Pro: the ATs are open, the latter is closed. The ATH-A700 would be, though, as would AKG's K81DJ.

I bought my HD 280's from Guitar Center. Also check out Sam Ash for another brick and mortar option. (You can also listen to them b4 buying)
