I sometimes have to work at home and I hate the clutter and mess hooking everything up and removing makes, but the docking stations that my work uses are $200. Are there other alternatives, so I don't have to unplug my monitors and hide the cables every week?

What brand of laptop? A bunch (Dell for example) have some proprietary solutions for docking. Most can be found on Ebay for cheap tho if that's an option.
A more universal solution are docks based on USB (Example: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=332-0446) but I tend to try to avoid those where possible.

there are good usb3,0 docks that support display over USB
I have an HP 3005 usb 3.0 docking station it has display port and hdmi can run 2560x1600 via both outputs. Has worked flawlessly for me. You won't notice much lag at all if you have a fast cpu used with a i7 4500u it wasn't too bad. Dropping the resolution helps. Tried it out on my i7 4770 system and it was even smoother
