I am about to get a 5900 256mb ultra production model.
Is the layout for the 5900 ultra and the production model the same?
Does anyone know of any more silent fan I can put on it?
Will the nv silencer made for the 5900 xt's fit correctly?
I am looking at this one:

Please let me know!
Ben

why dont you get x800pro or 9800xt unless you'll just be playing doom 3 , 5900 is outdated for sure but so is the 9800xt but is almost twice as fast

ICK ICK ICK 9800xt isnt worth the money either....9800pro is like 200$ and almost as fast...or if you wanna spend 300$ the 6800nu is probably the best for the money....x800pro just cant keep up with the gt...and the gt is the same price...so dont do that....

man you guys are totally missing the point. ok i'm coming from a ti4400 and i don't want to waste too much money. I picked up a 5900ultra for $105...get the point?
That is one thing I forgot about these forums...few people actually advise on what is needed and too many people flaunt on what they have and what other people should do.
Thanks, but it just didn't do what I needed.
regards.

NV silencer is about the best there is. It will certainly do the job.

lol wow..whered you get a deal like that??? i looked it up online and only found it for 395$....thats why i said go for the 6800....6800 is ALOT better and about 100$ chearper....i didnt know you were getting a deal...shoulda siad that....and i WISH i had a 6800....im hoping to get one next month...but currently i have gainward 5600...i dont know how that is "flaunting" anything....

I don't think the Silencer 3 will fit an Ultra card. I've been looking into the issue myself, and the Silencer 4 is what is supposed to work. I've yet to see one of these available however

I have a BFG 5900 and run it on stock cooling without much of a noise problem as my son and speakers when playing a game are louder than the fans . . . also never saw the temps leave the low 70s (Hit high 70s w/ it OC'd and an hour of Doom3 once) even on a hot summer day. If I were you I would save the money and stick with stock. That is unless the ultra runs a lot hotter the the vanilla 5900.

Thank you guys, better answers this time (or advise, I suppose).
WHAT I ended up doing is getting the NV Silencer made for the 5900 XT's - the cores are the same and so should fit, but they do run a bit hotter on the 5900 ultras...oh well, I am not over clocking it so it is not an issue, I just want a more silent system running.
Thanks all!
Ben

I suppose you should all know that the 5900 ultra I received for $105 was a pre production model, and so is kinda funky in itself...aka not QUITE as fast, nor can you change the bios on it, etc.
Ben

If that works well please post up, I have been looking for an alternate cooling solution for my card but all i've found is the one for the 5900XT and my 5900nu is running at almost 5950 speeds so i'm kind of afraid of trying the HSF you are.

sig says all.. idles at 32C games at ~50C tops.. i redid the plates tho and the arctic silver isnt done settling in...so its prob gonna get cooler :p
