I just bought the AGP 6600GT video card from newegg.

Do I need anything additional to keep the cooling down? Just curious if it is recommended or if the cards heatsink will be adequate.

um..obviously the retail heatsink will be adequate for stock speeds...now if you're overclocking...

Not really, What if he has a tight case with little airflow? Then a stock cooler isn't going to keep it cool.

If he has a tight case then no aftermarket cooler will fit anyway.

That's not biting the bullet, that's biting a BB. 6800gt or x800pro is a bullet :D

bb?

i dont know about that, when goin out and buying a "modern" video card, its always a leap of faith IMO,

congrats on the new card, go give it a run for its money,

Depends who you are. For him, $200 might be a lot. For Bill Gates, buying nVidia is "biting a BB".

I just said 'bit the bullet' because I don't game at all. Just wanted something more than cheap. Money wasn't an object, I just know that I probably could have gotten the same performance from a 9600 pro for surfing the web and shit. I couldn't bring myself not to spend the extra dough, so that is why I said bit the bullet...or BB.

Oh I do have 1 more question.

The card recommends 300 or 350 watts from the power supply. How do I figure out if I have that much power? What would happen if I didn't. I should have checked before I bought it but oh well.

There should be a sticker on the psu somewhere with some info. It's prolly a good idea to find the model from that and then look it up online.

btw, which brand? I like my MSI, but it's clocked kinda low :/

Bah, thats last years bullet. Biting the bullet now would be an X850XT or at least a 6800 Ultra :p.

You can get a 6800 Ultra for $399 if you check the Hot Deals section.

Hahah.

I'm about to bite the bullet and get myself a GT... :D

I "bit the jalapeno popper" and ordered a 6800NU SLI set Friday night. Already have and like a 6600GT SLI rig, wanted to check out the 6800NUs. (and not drop $850 on the 6800GTs! ;) )

I just picked up a BFG 6600GT OC on Friday. And man what a difference from what I was running. Geforce 3 ti500 . It's like Night and day. Splinter Cell and Swat demo's were fantastic. I'll be reinstalling Doom 3 and Far Cry to check out what I missed eye candy wise, since I was still running the ti500 when I played through them.

I'll try to OC it later when I get some other cooling for it. Right now just the stock speeds are enough to make a huge difference to me. Especially because of what I was gaming with.

Rollo, best of luck if you're going to get the nu's to gt speed.

Not really planning on OCing them much, if at all. I'm not a big OCer, can't afford to replace the parts if I break them.

The Firing Squad benches showed the 6800NU SLi between my current 6600GT SLi and 6800GT SLI, that's good enough for me. (and I scored them for $480 as refurbs, definitely good performance for that if they're working cards)
