One other question will this optical drive burn cds?

Well kinda wee bit early to be planning for christmass no? Computer parts are always going down, and by November I bet you will have a bigger selection for the same price.

it looks pretty good, but if he is going play UT2004, you might want to get a new videocard. anyways theres like 4 more months till decumeber so untill then, you can get one of those amd 64 512kb chips for cheap :)

Not enough video card to run UT2K4 really well. Still trying to stay cheap I'd say maybe a radeon 9600 or geforce 4200 ti?

Well, first off, I salute you for doing us programmers a favor and actually paying for us to keep making programs for you :D

Since you're giving him your 5700, it all looks good. Like someone else said, wait until at least November, maybe even early December, to order, because prices will inevitably come down. If you're not averse to rebates, you can probably pick up the memory and drives for pretty cheap from a brick-and-mortar, for example on any given week you can get that 80GB drive for $40-$50 after rebates.

And yes, that drive will burn CD's, just won't burn DVD's.

You have a cool uncle if he likes to play FPS. I need to get back into my UT2004 mode but Doom 3 has been taking that away from me. :D

FYI--

Quake is NOT like UT...
Quake is Quake.
There is NO other games like Quake.
I love Quake.

<3 Thank you for reading my uber poem.

I would get him the Abit NF7-S over the Asus board.

Difference

Abit has Soundstorm Certified audio

and most definately up the vid card.
If you are going to give him a POS 5700, why do you have a Geforce2... I mean Geforce4 MX in the parts list?

And post the prices for each part. We probably know cheaper places to send you to get what you are looking for.

The geforce 2 is a 9 dollar differance and he wont be doing much with it. I think it is a great comp for what He'll only be doing with it.
