The issue with your thread title is it just says "Already????"

The least you could have said was "Kaveri Already Available?" or something that included ANY sort of context about what the fuck you were on about.

But no, they are set to launch January 14th AFAIK.

I saw this a few days ago but didn't post it for some reason. They "launch" next month, take that for what it's worth...

and usually when they start pre-listing like such it will be available soon, and no that is the expected price A10-7850k ~$180 launch price so $170 is a little more sensible kind of probably $169.99 launch price. the performance of these is supposed to make it well worth it at least by current benchmarks(wont know till in the wild huh) the A10-7770k ~$169 so probably will be $158.99. Suppose we shall see what it brings in regards to constant available performance, Mantle, overclocking, memory performance etc.

And yeh as far as thread title, is not catering to me, is a troll like title, you have to come in to see it, like other guy said, you couldn't just say Kaveri somewhere in there, your hands cant be broken as you did type out what you did.
 
Kaveri will most likely be ~$150 max at actual launch. The pre-order listings are always inflated. FX-8350 was listed at like $220 when it launched, despite the actual MSRP being $199.99.
 
I'm internet crying guys! But seriously, I was way too excited. Because steamroller is so long in the making. So, I internet apologize, and would offer cookies, but I can't bake.

I'm actually going to order one methinks. I'm very interested in the prospect of hUMA (I think that's how they capitalized that one). Anyway. Just imagine milk and cookies, or figs maybe, for an apology.

Steamroller FX would have been great to see given all the promises with optimizations and such, who knows maybe FX will end up being comparable to the way Intel treats their high end x79 platform with opteron doing the server side and APU being the low to mid range, maybe this is what they were referencing by a unified socket, something like FM2 in aspect effectively replacing AM3+ and am4+ becoming C32 and G32 being server only capable of multi-chip, this would clean up a lot of the individual sides being APU do not need many channels, just really fast memory(GDDR5 perfect example) FX and C32 or 1p type opteron can benefit from many channels so DDR4 clearly makes sense but cannot be done with AM3+ with the limit imposed by current HT used in the memory controller, G34 or whatever they call the very high end 16 core ones can use wicked amounts of channels so it needs tons of capacity more then it needs speed.

So 4 separate lines "fused" into 3 lines i.e mobile and general user, enthusiast and workstation, high end workstation and server centric.

Either way, with what Mantle should be bringing to the table(along with hUMA and HSA) it may make that difference between needing many cores at a very high speed to an apu type approach that the cpu core handles background tasks, the apu in the core doing video and such and when it comes to gaming they both get clocked way down to save power and Mantle allows the discrete card to be used at its best, power where its needed when its needed. Many folks complain that AMD does not have the raw performance Intel has, maybe its not needed anymore if you can get to the basics again (steamOS which is gaming centric is a great example, and Mantle is another, K.I.S.S is always better)

I was very hopeful for bulldozer but was letdown initially however if one takes a step back and looks at what it is leading to in the long run, it now looks like the right direction. Kaveri(steamroller) is another step towards that it seems.

Last I had seen of benches, Kaveri competes VERY well with Intel i3-i5 Haswell(and Ivy-Sandy for that matter) at least in benches, so gaming wise should do quite well, AMD will charge a higher price then they did with Richland as apparently they are confident in what Mantle is going to be with how many devs they have on board, not to mention Kaveri on its own merits.

A little pricey yes, but considering it is supposed to be basically 7750/7770 like performance right off the hop with a very tuned chip, that is a fair price, power levels look quite fair, temperatures are good, and overclocking is supposed to be quite nice(power has been tuned quite a bit coming from Piledriver and way better then bulldozer) at least this is what I have seen so far.
 
That seems like one of the major benefits of Steamroller, power optimization, which is a long time coming with what Bulldozer did for them. If they wish to compete with Intel, this is one thing that can't really be ignored. Supposedly there is a new generation of Piledriver for the server side of things that includes some of those optimizations and improved ability to get to lower power states as Steamroller apparently didn't make the cut for G34 until sometime in the first half of next year (believe I saw it on xbitlabs). Regardless, it would help tremendously if they were just a little less cryptic. Even if they say less from a marketing standpoint, I think it would help if AMD focused on telling is their intentions instead of talking around those issues. I would never expect an answer, but it helps to be frank about why you can't talk about AM3 or AM4's future, for example. I think so at least, but I'm no marketing type. Or physicist for that matter.

The focus on APU's is wonderful for them, a great new market they created. But it's been limited by the ability of software to actually take advantage of GPUs properly, but I think they're finally headed in the right direction by developing some interesting API's that actually take advantage of what they have to offer now though. Only time will tell!

I still really want one. So screw it. And since it's by and from Amazon, I put in my order. Of the power profile is good, I can always use a new file server!

An integrated GPU? Weirdos at AMD must be smoking some good stuff! Without looking it up, I believe that Intel's integrated GPU development didn't start until well after AMD started that market. So Intel probably sees something valuable in the HSA and hUMA approach (without saying as much, but by focusing on similar goals, power and iGPU improvements). AMD has their hands on an idea that has a lot of merit. Not the best implementation, but if Intel is shifting its goals to mirror a lot of what AMD is doing (though likely not directly because of AMD themselves), there has to be something to it. Right?

Basically about a year ago everyone thought they were going to go under and cess production of PC chips.

I don't think Kaveri will be priced anywhere near the 8350. That is pricing Kaveri out of its intended market segment. These APU's aren't meant to be enthusiast chips, and we have no actual confirmations on what the real performance are of the chip besides what the graphics are capable of. The iGPU is basically a DDR3 HD 7750.

Intel has had iGPU's for quite some time, before Llano even came out. But AMD has been planning HSA (originally called Fusion System Architecture) ever since 2004~2005. This culminated with their acquisition of ATi back in 2006. They did this to not only gain market share with GPU's, but to later implement their GPU tech on their CPU's specifically for HSA purposes.

Kaveri is a huge deal because it is the first APU to truly have full HSA support. Carrizo will be the fully idealized version of HSA, which once again will be a big deal.

AMD is providing the hardware, now it's gonna be up to the software developers to get off their asses again and make some code that takes advantage of it. Granted, not every workload will magically benefit from HSA, but many will.

Atoms with integrated video (Lincroft) came out over a year before (May 2010) and Core i models (Clarkdale) came out almost 18 months (January 2010) before AMD shipped Llano (June 2011). :p Intel was shipping a second generation (Sandy Bridge) of integrated GPUs 6 months (January 2011) before Llano came out too. Llano was a long delayed fiasco.

Otherwise, your points are completely on track. ;) From a different point, it is true that AMD's GPU performance is pushing Intel to make its own GPUs more powerful, but Intel isn't going to dedicate 50% of the die space to a GPU.
 
So what ? Intel was all about "look at us were cool we own the x86 cpu business" and everyone is cheering on (hurrah) Intel is the best and Intel didn't mind the ego stroking and so on and so forth.

Now that other devices are getting more sales is Intel going to make a big deal out of the APU market, that is peanuts compared to ARM. The reason why Intel does not do better with their approach is because it is an after thought instead of a design from the ground up (go Edram).
 
the title of this thread is crap. Hoping on that bandwagon.

I find the price reasonable, consider the high end APU's are targeting I5's .

I happen to find the title rather classy. But I hope that you're hoping for a bandwagon as well.

ARM (and subsequently iOS, Android, Meego, OSX, Windows somewhat) and AMD are trying to make the GPU a significant part of the equation. It has it's purpose, as CUDA and OpenCL has proven for us folders and DC commandos. If Intel is chasing lower power consumption and are even interested in encroaching on the mobile sector, the iGPU is a very important piece of that puzzle, and it would be in Intel's best interest to develop a better iGPU to compete (and they are). The software will inevitably follow, OpenCL and even CUDA have show a slow yet steady increase in implementation in software, to the point that it would appear that we are headed towards an HSA world with both camps.
