Almost there

I've had so many problems configuring my comp and now i'm on the last problem..as far as i know....my comp doesn't recognize my new SATA HD. It's the only HD in there..i picked up the new Hitachi Deskstar as instructed from certain members of this board.

I have an ASUS K8V SE Deluxe Mobo if that means anything.

Look in your motherboard box and see if there's a driver floppy. You'll have to obtain or create one, and press F6 at the appropriate time. You can also slipstream a disk (google it) so next time you reinstall you won't need one.

no floppy...and when i go to the ASUS website to dload the SATA driver..it's too big for a floppy.

I'm assuming that the drive shows up in the BIOS and you're trying to install XP 32-bit, if that's not the case then holler as there are some other things to try.

If you can get your hands on a floppy drive:
When you open up the zip file, just extract the "WinXP" folder and copy it to the floppy and you should be in business. If you have a choice in the matter I'd lean towards using the VIA chipset as it seems to be less problematic with this motherboard.

If you can't get a floppy drive:
I think you're pretty much looking at trying to find/make a slipstreamed XP-SP2 CD(preferably with the drivers you need added to it) like unhappy_mage reccomended.

I can't say with any validity(maybe someone else can chime in) as it's been way too long since I've installed Windows, but if XP will let you use a CD for the drivers you could try that as a last ditch effort.
