Alright, I think I have finally found the system I want to build. I just need some opinions first.

-]Athlon 64 3200+ 1MB L2 Cache
-Gigabyte "GA-K8NS PRO" nForce3 250 Motherboard
-2x512MB Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Stick DDR PC3200
-PowerColor ATI RADEON X800 XT Video Card, 256MB GDDR3, 256-Bit, DVI/VIVO, 8X AGP
-Western Digital 120GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD1200JD, OEM Drive Only
-Antec 550W Power Supply, Model "TRUE550"
-Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS GAMER Limited Edition PCI Sound Card
-Logitech THX Certified Z-680 5.1 Speaker 500Watt Silver -RETAIL

Now, I am not concerned with overclocking. I am just concerned with performance overall in gaming. I have a 17" monitor with a max rez. of 1280x1024. I want to be able to play Doom 3, Half Life 2, and Everquest 2... very well. If at all possible, I want to be able to turn the settings up all the way and have it run very smoothly.

So, the questions would be... will this system be able to pull it off? Will I have bottlenecks in any areas? If so, please feel free to give opinions and other options. I want to go with the FX-51... but I really don't wanna spend the extra $700.

Looks good. I think you'll be fine with the 64 3200, IMO it's not worth the money for the FX 51 right now.

The only thing I wouldn't do is get that power supply. What are you doing that you actually need 550W of power? I'm sure your system would be fine on a 400W PSU. But if you want it and have the cash, go for it... always the macho power factor ;)
 
Thanks for the input man. I wasn't sure what kind of PSU I would need for my system. I have 2 fans in mine right now, and a UV reactive light. I am sure I will need more fans in there if I upgrade... so I wasn't sure how big of a PSU I would need.

On quick question... someone mention to me that the 3200+ doesn't have a dual memory controller, therefore it wouldn't be smart to get that memory. Is that true? If so, what is the next best thing I could go with that would allow me to use that ram for what it's worth?

Oh wow. Two fans and a light. That's what, 20W if it's a really power-hungry light? :rolleyes: :)p)

You shouldn't need any more than about a 350W PSU to run it well; if you want (a lot of) overhead, consider a TruePower 380W or 430W; 550W is unnecessary unless you're going to go to dual processors or something. (And then you would need a unit with an EPS connector.)
 
How about the Xtra Low Latency RAM from Corsair? Definitely might want this for AMD as they love low latency timings. Just a thought.

go for the 550w psu, or get a 510w pc power and cooling, it will last you years into the future, for possible upgrades. the new amd chips if u ever decide to upgrade will possible require more power, as well as the graphics card, hard drives, everything else is needing more it seems. i would say go all out and spend on the pc power and cooling, granted it is expensive, but its arguably the best built psu on the market.

On a side note, GeForceX is on a posting spree. everywhere i go i see his name, back from hiatus i assume?
 
To me, all Logitech speakers sound muddy. Klipsch's have a far superior sound, but that's just a suggestion. I know the Logitech's are cheaper, and it shows in a comparison, but I can easily hear the difference.

What is your budget? It really determins what we recommend.

You don't need a 550 watt PS. Save your money for other parts

I would suggest getting a either a 32GB or 74GB Raptor in addition to that 120GB and make it your primary drive.

Personally, I would go with the Nvidia in this round of graphics chips. You'll get the benefit of PS 3.0 right out of the box. You will have to purchase ATIs next, next gen card before you get that support.

You may want to look into getting some Mushkin 2-2-2 special to go into that rig. It is more expensive but you will be putting the best mem possible in that system
 
Thanks for all the help guys. I am not sure if I wanna go with a 754 AMD anymore... since they don't have the dual memory controller. I would really like to with a 939... but they are considerably more pricey.
