Today I got the bright idea to refill my watercooling loop as its been a while since i've done it and I needed something to do ( :rolleyes: :p ). Anyway I thought while I had no water in I'd reapply some AS5 to my chip. Slowly removed the block, making sure not to pull the CPU with it, all went fine. Now stupid me not noticing some water left in the block, turn it over to inspect my previous AS5 application. DRIP! right on my Corsair ram. I did my best impression of the scene from Mission Impossible trying to catch the drip. Just a nice green puddle on my ram and in my ram slots.

At this point I'm about shitting my pants. Grabbed some tissue paper, cleaned up what I could see, got the hair dryer out (probably not a good idea in hindsight as I've heard some stories of static buildup?) Anyway, managed to refit the block, refill the loop. Crossed every paired thing on me and booted it up.

ALL WORKED PERFECTLY!!! BOOYA.

Plus lowered my temps :p

 
Hehe, I had a similar experience. Was changing the water in my system, when I realized I didn't tighten one of the plastic hose clamps on the CPU block, and as soon as I booted up(ya I know, I didnt' bother leak testing :( ), a puddle of water fell on my 6800GT near the agp connector as well as on the agp port itself. Well I'm sitting there scared as sh*t got some tissue paper and carefully wiped the area out. Waited about 10min in fear, then re-booted, good as new! :D
 
Hehe nice. Oh and to top it off, my ghetto attached fan on my old 4200 fell off too.

Has anyone else had any close calls like these?
 
As long as you clean it up and let it completely dry out there is no danger...I'm assuming of course you had the power off when doing this? Dropping water onto a non powered mobo/vid card/anything is as harmless as pouring it down your stainless stell kitchen sink.

Yeh, power off, still didn't stop me from nearly filling my pants, lol. I was a bit worried that I had missed some that might of gone between the heat spreaders on the ram.
 
How long did you let it dry? If you let everything air out for 24 hours you should be good to go.
 
I dried it with tissue paper and then set the hair dryer on low and slowly dried it. Took about half an hour tops.
 
Couldnt be as bad as the time I spilled a glass of water ALL OVER MY CASE, When the case was open.

I took everything out my case, every last part and let everything dry under a ceiling fan for 2 days. Put everything back in, fired it up and worked better than ever!

did you at least take the memory out of the slots to make sure there was no excess water that leaked down into the DIMM slots?
 
Yeh of course. I inspected the whole system like a hawk to make sure i didn't miss any. It took 30 mins to dry out the ram (it was a tiny drop that got on one of the modules). The main spot was on the motherboard next to the memory slots. Believe me I wasn't about to switch on my pc without taking everything out there slots and checking them. Its all working perfectly now.

I wash my boards with soap and water :confused:

Like said before no problem as long as its completely dry and no residue from the other chemicals besides water (coolant additives, soda, pizza ect...)
