Almost finished with my first SFF, just gotta pic up a Vid card and maybe a couple other random things.

sff-build.JPG

* MicroFly Case
* OCZ Gold 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800
* Maxtor 320GB HDD (rebadged Seagate)
* COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power 650W Power Supply
* AMD 5000+ Black Edition CPU
* GIGABYTE GA-MA69GM-S2H AM2 AMD 690G HDMI Micro ATX MotherBoard
* 20p to 24P PSU connector

Hopeing to pick up a 8800GT or GTS soon

I have my things via newegg coming in a couple of days, then I can join the SFF crowd. Congrats on your build. Post pics.

Thanks :)
Just got the Mobo, CPU and 20 to 24 coverter today from Newegg, Goin to start putting it all together here in a few

Installed the 5KBE | HS/F & RAM
(Sorry for the shitty CPU pic)

Now to stick it in the case and deal with the wiring nightmare lol

Is that the stock cooler fore the 5000+ BE. Far shot from the heat piped ones they were sending with the X2's

Yeah they didnt ship witha HS, that ones off a 5200+ til i decide what Aftermarket one i want to go with

Honestly, SSFs are a royal pain in the ass. I've sworn them off in a big way. Especially Shuttles. I /hate/ Shuttles. Unreliable proprietary little pieces of crap, those things..

Ive always wanted to try and build one so this was the time. Not sure if id build one again, but we'll see when this one gets finished

I've got the same motherboard and case and they're doing great together. As far as aftermarket heatsinks go, the Thermalright Ultima-90 just barely fits in the case if you want to do some serious overclocking.

Ill probably go with like a 520HX sooner or later, just using this one cause i got it cheap.
lol didnt even notice the eye showing thru it :p
Yeah im not goin to OC w/ the HS thats in it now i dont think

Heres a couple more shitty pics (will get better ones later) after about 20 minutes of tryin to get teh wires together. Just used the empty drive bay to hide everything that wasnt used.

thats like my setup :D Look at my sig, but i have a after market fan, and its all in a Lanbox lite, you need al ittle cable management, but thats a cool computer :)

lol nice
Yeah its a pain with how long all the wires are from the PSU to get them to look decent.
Ill take more time when i order a vid card and get everything into it and set up.
If it becomes to much of a pain Ill just toss all the guts into a mid tower and call it a day lol :p

The eyes there to keep everything in check, something get out of line, if the RAM decides to push around the HS, it takes care of it

Figured I'd post mine since I know we started round the same time!

specs: q6600 (stock atm), CNPS7000AlCu (still works fine!), EVGA 7100 board, 2gb OCZ Gold, MSI 512mb 8800gt, 2x80gb seagate's in raid0, 500gb seagate as storage, CM650RP, Vista ultimate.

Cons: Excess wiring, putting in the hdd rack was a bitch.. had to slam it in there.. made for a bit of a cable nightmare. Other than that.. I'll prob upgrade to 4gb in a couple of months.. I've noticed Vista likes to use 1+gb while doing virtually nothing. (aero enabled) Took it to a LAN last night and it worked splendidly to my surprise.

Yeah I'm by no means finished with it.. (Notice the board is hanging out the backend in the pic.. still have the cmos jumper exposed for easy access so I can start toying with oc'ing..

But it's a good thing you asked. Opened up core temp and saw mid-high 60's C.. and did a "wtf". opened up the case and the cnps7000 wasn't spinning because a power cable was blocking it.. Now it's reporting mid 30's on the cores. It's pretty chill in my room also, maybe 64ºF or so.

There are a total of ten cables though that come out of the back of the hdd rack.. so that pretty much kills cable management. 4 go to power (3 for the drives, one of the rack), 3 are "activity wires" (i believe) which run from the drive to the rack, and 3 are sata cables.

no, same one you purached. The HDD rack just fits 3x3.25" hdd's into two 5.25" bays

What racks are they?

I gotta re-do some of the wire routing i did cause i forgot that i need a vid card in there and ran some of the wires over the PCI-e slot lol

Cold, i just got the F3A bios (unofficial) for the board we have, and i just OCed it. read the [H]ard review to get the FSB:Ram frequency, but yeah, mines is now at 3ghz 334 FSB

I have an X-Qpack(basically the same case), and your best bet to hide the excess wires it in the 5.25 bays under your CD drive. I put one of my hard drives in the floppy bay and my CD drive in the top 5.25 bay and stuffed all my extra wires in between them. I'll admit though, my cable management sucks, but it works good enough for my purposes.

thanks for the link :)

CmaN3: thats what im doin' stuck all the wires in the second bay under the DVDRW drive, seems to work out nice, not sure where else id stick them if not there

forgot the word "pin"
The PSU is a 20 pin main and the motherboard needs a 24 pin, and the converter does just that makes a 20 pin a 24 :)

Are you certain on that? I'm pretty sure my CM650 is a 20+4pin.. 99% sure.. you might wanna take a look.

Yeah the CM650 is a 20+4 )20 for the main power and the additionl 4 pin seperate) the motherboard i have needs a 24+4, 24 pin main w/ the 4 pin seperate)

No, the 20+4 means it has a detachable 4 pin that goes with the 20 pin as part of the main adapter. The CPU Plug is an additional connector.

Hopefully that helps!!

Damn it lol, i just check the PSU and sure enough.....
Thats what i get for posting on 36 hours and no sleeep

Well guess that saves about 6" of un-needed wiring.

still have the cmos jumper exposed for easy access so I can start toying with oc'ing..

Get and old case.. Tear out the power button from it (the one with two wires), plug it onto the CMOS jumper. If its the kind where theres only two pins put it on the two.. If its the kind with the 3 pins that you switch from 1&2 to 2&3 put it on the two that used for the actual reset. When you need to reset it just hold the button on power cable for a few seconds and will reset the CMOS.

Just hang the cable somewhere outside of your case, or mod it in if you feel. Saves a lot of aggravating time. :)
